We need help still - still short at least 2,000 of what we need for deposit and 2500 of our goal. If we had to put a deposit down tomorrow with what we have donated and in our bank, we still could not. I know it is alot to ask, but we still need help.
LLTB said landlord does not have to pay us our last months rent until July. after our move out date he requested. Our hearing is July 18th so technically we dont have to move until after that date assuming the Judge sides with the landlord

AN UPDATE: THE MARKET IS CRAZY, SO NOW WE ARE NO LONGER LOOKING AS MUCH AT 3 BEDROOMS, BECAUSE IN MOST HOUSES WE WOULD BE IN THERE LIKE SARDINES AND ANY TENANTS DOWNSTAIRS WOULD HEAR GUITAR PLAYING AND DOGS. SO WE DECIDED TO GET ONE EXTRA ROOM OR BASEMENT AND PAY MORE BUT RENT OUT TO INTERNATIONAL STUDENT OR SOMEONE WHO ALSO NEEDS A DECENT PLACE TO LIVE. WE HAVE DONE THIS BEFORE AND IT IS SOMETIMES AWESOME TO LIVE WITH SOMEONE FROM ANOTHER CULTURE OR WHO HAS SOMETHING INTERESTING IN THEIR LIVES GOING ON. WE ARE GREAT AT LOOKING AFTER THEM AS FAMILY.
SO IF I DONT RESPOND TO HOUSES WITH ONE FLOOR AND NO EXTRA SPACE THAT IS WHY. THE PRICES ARE GRUESOME AND THEY ARE LIKE LIVING IN A SARDINE CAN FOR 2300 - 2600 A MONTH!

A week and a half ago, we were told we will be losing our home where myself, my husband and two sons live. We have lived there 5 years and never missed a rental payment.
We are pretty sure that landlord intends to renovate and rent the home for more, or separate the basement and rent it as two units, its illegal if he does not live here for one year, but thats tomorrows problem, for now, worrying about that does not change that we have at this time, until July 1, 2019 to move. The big problem is that we are paying well under market value as we have been in the home 5 years and long before the market went crazy. We only pay 1800 a month and apartments for 3 bedrooms are over 2200.00 a month, let alone a house, which run well over 2300-2800 a month plus utilities.
Doing this to tenants is an epidemic in Toronto and the story was on CBC just a few days ago. Our current government have made it easier for landlords as well.
My one son has got medical problems that we can only access living in Toronto. We have looked at all listings and have already seen more than 15 locations, most of the least expensive were gone on line, overnight.
We have friends on facebook groups, friends, and agent where i work, looking for a 3 bedroom home, apartment or townhouse and they are all hundreds of dollars more per month than we pay now. We have seen apartments at 2300.00 per month, just in normal buildings, or one floor of a home that is really a 2+ but they call it a 3 bedroom house. No room to move, small closets and utilities on top.
We have been so frightened and stressed and so are our sons, wondering, what we will do and where we will go. WE also HAVE FUR BABIES WHO ARE PART OF OUR FAMILY AND GO WHERE WE GO but it limits our options as some landlords dont accept animals!
Then I remembered when we had a much larger home than now and 3 little boys, we rented a room to international students or newcomers. We meet wonderful people who are still friends today. So my agent and I started looking at places where we would have space, where taking our pets was no an issue and where we could help someone else find a place to live for reasonable cost (rents are crazy for single people and students now). We can provide a nice, safe environment. We will be going this route and have found an awesome place, but we need to put thousands down to secure it, withing the next 48 hours.
Anyway, we landed on one perfect situation. The problem is that the landlord does not have to refund our money until July and we don't have the money to instantly pay first, last months rent at a much higher rent than we pay now and also not have the opportunity to rent a room yet as we have not move in. Oh and the cost of Moving! It will be crazy.
Tomorrow, when we put an offer in, we need immediately 2 months rent and security deposit, which is over $5,000.00. We have about $3,000 now (May 9th) but need the rest and a cushion for unexpected costs if our landlord does not comply with paying us back June rent.
We will get this money back and are prepared to offer payments back to those who helped as long as you dont donate "anonymously".
We also have other monies coming to us which should make life alot easier for a bit, but that is not until end of June, July earliest. my son will also start paying a bit of rent in the new place, up to now he has been in University.
I am also trying to care for my very ill sister at this time, so this comes as what could not be a worse time, as it requires time of work, but we have no choice. Soon I will apply for compassionate care benefits so I can look after her.
We have all the legal advice on what may or may not be done with our notice, but at this point, we cant afford to wait until we are on the street to act and this is just the best solution we can find for moving forward. I really beg you to help us get through this time and ensure we have somewhere to go by July.
