Help Olive the Briard
Hello All Cadi is in need of help for Olive her 14 year old Briard
Cadi explains that Olive was rescued from a Spanish killing station 10 years ago when she was riddled with cancer and weighed 13kg (a healthy Briard should weigh over 30kg). She'd spent 4 years chained in blazing sun in the south of Spain, guarding a building site. During that time, she was beaten, starved and denied access to water. She still bears the scars of this today - her kidneys are shot, her skull was fractured, her body is covered in scars. Once the site was finished, she was taken with her 6 puppies to be killed. Her puppies didn't survive, but I spotted her on a charity page and agreed to take her. I was living in a tiny flat in Berlin and not really in the ideal position to take on a severely traumatised large dog, but somehow it worked. The vet thought I was mad, gave Olive 6 months to live. I promised her they'd be the best 6 months I could manage. And Olive has been at my side for 10 years. We've travelled across Europe and the UK. She's got me through miscarriage, marriage breakup and my mother's death. She's never once put a foot wrong. She housetrained herself on day 1, and walked by my side with no lead from day 1 as well. She's never been trained, she just knows what she needs to do. She's trusted me implicitly since the first moment we met, and this is why I can't put her down. She's not ready. I know she isn't. She wasn't ready 10 years ago, and she's still not ready now.
Olive has cancer in her foot, and the ensuing infection is not responding to drugs. The only options are amputation or being put to sleep, and she's so not ready to go yet. She has maybe a week before she gets blood poisoning, so time is running out.
Her vet is giving her a 50/50 chance of surviving and Cadi needs desperately to find a way to fund a £900 operation for Olive, and it would also be lovely to cover the £700 needed for a CT scan to see if there are any secondary cancers
Olive is uninsurable due to her age and other conditions as a result of her life before Cadi rehomed her. She's my furry warrior, and she deserves every chance I can find for her.
