Help off set treatment costs

I am writing to eveyone with devastating news about our youngest sister, Erica.  Some of you may or may not know she was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma in January of 2010.  She had the primary source (a mole on her back left shoulder area) and some lymph nodes removed by a surgeon here in Fort Worth, and they continued further treatment at MD Anderson in Houston.  At MDA she underwent radical surgery to remove all lymph nodes in that area.  She then continued her follow up PET scans religiously to make sure the cancer did not return.

About 6 weeks ago she began experiencing some stomach issues. Her local doctor referred her to a GI specialist, however, her pain intensified and she ended up in he ER. They ran a CT scan and on Tuesday  4/17/18 morning informed her they found 25 metastatic lesions on her liver.

She and Harvey took their boys and headed straight to MD Anderson that evening.  Since then, she has gone through a battvery of test that have confirmed the  25+ lesions on her liver with many more smaller lesions in the surrounding fatty tissue. They also found 6 lesions in Erica's brain and 11 in her lungs... That's over 45 metastatic melanoma lesions invading her body.

Because there are so many, and they are so spread out, surgery is not an option at this point.  They admitted Erica into MDA where they will get her pain (which has been extremely severe) and swelling under control.  She'll have a biopsy to confirm the genetic group of the metastasis (although they are almost certain it is melanoma) and then she'll begin an immunotherapy intravenous treatment to shrink the tumors.  If they shrink enough they may go back to remove the larger ones or possibly use pinpoint radiation for the ones in the brain.

We are taking donations to help offset the cost of continued trips to and from MD Anderson in Houston for testing and medical consultation, care for Erica and Harvey's two young boys and any additional unforseen costs that may arise. Your support is greatly appreciated during this difficult time.
