Help Nathalie recover her dreams

Donation protected
She is Nathalie Henao Muñoz, Colombian and 30 years old.

Nathalie has always been a dreamer, a happy and sociable woman, devoted to her family and friends.

She was finishing her degree on Audio-visual Communication, which she put on hold in a brave decision to travel  to gain new skills and experience that would open new doors for her professional and personal development.

Nathalie decided to travel to Australia in November 2017, her main goal to improve her English level, learn a new culture, travel and explore.

The past 30th of May in the early morning before heading to work Nathalie started acting very out of character. She appeared distracted, ill and hurried but was still getting ready to take on her daily activities. It was when Nathalie started her work shift that crisis struck, she fainted and was rushed by ambulance to the nearest hospital.

Doctors determined Nathalie had suffered a major stroke, following the diagnosis on that same day she was admitted to receive an emergency surgery.

Fortunately Nathalie survived the harrowing ordeal but has suffered with the complete loss of the ability to speak and motor skills.

With therapy Nathalie is making progress and slowly recovering her functions. She has taken her first steps and recovering motor skills in her arms and hands. Nevertheless, she still has difficulties relating to language.

Her diagnostic is Aphasia, an impairment of language, affecting the production or comprehension of speech and the ability to read or write.

Nathalie is currently enduring the most challenging situation of her life, thousands of kilometres away from and without, the support of her family and the familiarity of home. Fortunately Nathalie is not completely alone as she has the support of her childhood friends who had decided to join her Australian adventure. They have been her main support and the ones that have kept her energies high so she doesn’t give up.

Nathalie’s mother Flor Angela has fled to Melbourne from Colombia to take care of her daughter. She faces the shock of her daughters life threatening and impairing stroke and also the cultural shock of being in Australia for the first time and speaking no English, with limited social network.

Given all the expenses Nathalie is incurring due to groceries, rent, studies, transports and the perspective of a lengthy recovery, that will include specialist, future therapies and treatment (including the expenses of her mother that will stay in Australia exclusively to care for Nathalie) her family is asking for all the possible donations at this time and will be eternally grateful for your help and generosity.
