Help me write A Year on the Prairie

Donation protected
I have written about life on Whidbey Island for 28 years, covering everything from an epic fire fueled by a stash of ammunition and old paint cans, to picking my way through piles of dead star fish at the beach.

Through it all, sports have been my go-to beat, with the past six years spent pounding out 6,200 articles at coupevillesports.com.

Breaking away from the day-to-day world of blogging, I am devoting the next year to working on my third book, "A Year on the Prairie."

It will tell the tale of female athletics in Coupeville, mixing the 2018-2019 school year with stories from the past.

While blog articles tend to be shorter and of-the-moment, writing a book will allow me to go deeper, to be "more Sports Illustrated and less USA Today."

My hope is to honor the athletic pioneers of our past and hail the young women blazing their own trail today.

From athletes who persevered and played long before Title IX was a reality to today's college and high school stars, down to the young girls picking up their first bat or tennis racket, they all have stories.

With your help, we can bring those stories into the light and preserve them.

The money raised will help pay monthly bills and allow me to devote my time to researching, interviewing, covering games and writing.

My plan is to publish "A Year on the Prairie" in summer 2019.

Any and all donations are greatly appreciated, and I'm offering rewards, which you can see in the sidebar.

Together, as a community, with my typing fingers and your financial support, we can produce something amazing.
