Help me finish my 2nd year Blacksmithing course

Donation protected
Hi, I am Ross Stuart, a Blacksmithing student in Hereford, originally from Coulsdon, South London. I am looking for help to allow me to complete the first year of a two year course, Level 3 Diploma in Blacksmithing & Metalwork (2 year course) at The Rural Crafts Centre, Hereford.

Last year I completed the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Blacksmithing and Metalworking, in Hereford and achieved a Distinction Level. As I passed this course, this allowed me to continue my studies and progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Blacksmithing & Metalwork .

In addition to my Distinction level qualification, I won first prize for my hand forged puzzle box, at the Three Counties Show , Malvern.

I am a mature student, and in 2017 I took the risk of leaving my full time job in London, working for an architect, to retrain as a blacksmith. I am 32 years old, and this is a huge career change for me. However, I am determined to be the best blacksmith I can be. I've always been fascinated with metalworking and forging, and have wanted to do it for years. If I am able to complete my studies, my dream would be to have my own forge, and design a range of  beautiful, practical and functional pieces.

Although I was able to live on savings last year, I am now unable to continue the course. I am desperately looking for part time work, but it is difficult to do so in such a small city, and to find hours which fit with my studies.

As this is my first time as a student, I was able to secure a loan for tuition (advanced leaner loan), and my rent is partly paid for, but this does not cover the whole year. The loan also does not provide me with living expenses. Up until now I have relied on my savings and my parents to support me during my studies. My parents are no longer in a position to support me.

I am running this go fund me account to help me raise £2000, which I will use to cover the last two terms of this years course, whilst I continue to apply for part time work. The money raised would allow me to complete the spring and summer term (last day of college this year is 5th July 2019). I will use the money to pay the outstanding balance of for my rent,  food and expenses; travel to college; college materials and expenses whilst looking for work.

If I am unable to secure funding I will have to leave the course at the end of this term.

I have previously applied for a professional development loan, but as the college has not registered, I could not apply for a loan. I have also tried to apply for other bank loans but not applicable.

I would really appreciate any help you can afford to give. This is my dream career, and there are not many options in the UK to receive qualifications or experience in this traditional craft. I will show my appreciation to all whom donate by making you a small memento at college.

Thank you.
