My name is Angel Torres-Rivera. I currently work in the Entertainment department at Walt Disney World where I have spent the last 3 years trying to make magic and memorable experiences for Guests all across the world. Whether it's helping kids conquer their fear of the Dark Side or helping show that love and beauty are more than just skin deep. I do my job every day for the look on a childs face when they get to see their favorite characters com to life and to help them have these memories for the rest of their lives.
December 5, 2016 I lost my Mother after an 11 year battle with cancer. She was the strongest fighter I ever knew, but continued to grace everyone she met with heartwarming compassion, grace and faith. She always told me to follow my heart, be the best version of myself and support my family and loved ones in any time of need. With my moms advice in mind, and also as my motivation, I immediately began applying to schools hoping to get a degree in Engineering with hopes of finding a long term career in technological engineering. Also with my mom's words and passion for family in mind, I made plans to move to Colorado where I would be close to my brother, sister-in-law and 2 year old nephew after he was recently re-stationed with the US Army.
However on February 8, I was diagnosed with a rare and agressive form of Lyphoma after months of inconclusive tests and biopsies. The outstanding news is that the Doctors are very positive and have high hopes that the disease is in a curable state. While the diagnoses shocked me I have not felt scared or depressed.. in actuality I feel ready to kick cancers ass, I feel ready to fight and I feel my moms presence to help me through the hard times ahead.
But with any fight, there always come a little bit more... the medical bills, the missed work, and the ongoing treatments thereafter. Fortunately my job provides me with a good insurance plan and job security, but right now that is showing not to be enough. I've created this page not just to ask for your money or sympathy but instead to ask for your help in getting my story out there to anyone who may be able to help me fight the financial side of this battle.
