Help Max Beat Terminal Brain Cancer

Donation protected
Max was first diagnosed with a grade 2 astrocytoma brain tumour in 2013 at 24 years old. The tumour was surgically debulked (removed), only to return again in 2016.

Another surgery was performed in 2016, only to hear the news that the tumour had returned again in 2018, and this time, deemed inoperable, just 2 months after marrying his soul mate.

2018 saw Max undergo radiation and chemotherapy, and things were looking up, until a seizure on the 28th of November, 2018 put him in hospital for 3 weeks. He had developed a large cyst in the location of his tumour, and the pressure from that cyst meant that he couldn’t even recall his own name, or recognise his wife. He was airlifted to the Royal Hobart Hospital for surgery the next day to remove the cyst and remove some pressure from his brain. A week later he developed a staph infection in his brain from the surgery, resulting in needing to undergo another brain surgery to clear the infection. The staph infection meant that he had to be hooked up to an antibiotic drip 24/7 for the next 6 weeks.

On February 1st, 2019, at his post-surgery review, Max’s neurosurgeon informed them that the tumour had upgraded to a grade 4 glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), a terminal diagnosis with a 6 to 24 month life expectancy.

The treatment and survival rates for GBM has barely changed in the last 30 years, but Max is determined to beat the odds. Only 5% of people with glioblastoma survive more than 5 years. Max is a positive and determined man, and is willing to try anything to beat this cancer.

With the help of your donations, it would open up the possibility for interstate clinical trials, treatment overseas and/or a future surgery with Charlie Teo, as well as to fulfill his only bucket list item of becoming a father (with the help of fertility treatment).

During his last surgery, Max lost the peripheral vision from his right eye, and the feeling in his fingers and forearm comes and goes. His speech and memory were also affected.

Max has been off work since November 2018 in order for him to give his body the best chance at beating this cancer. He loves his job and would give anything to return to normal day-to-day life.

Your donation would mean the absolute world to Max, his wife Monica, and their families. No donation is too small, and if you are unable to donate monetarily, sharing this gofundme on your social media platforms would have the same life-changing (and potentially life-saving) affect for them.
