This is my mom. She is a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend, a wife, a fighter, an advocate, a sponsor, a cancer survivor, a do-er, an amazing cook, an inspiration. This is what those who are close to Maria know of her, and that's just the short-list. But Maria is also battling cancer again and she needs our help.
My name is Laz Marquez and on behalf of my family, I want to tell you a little bit about the most incredible woman I know, my hero and inspiration. We are making this GoFundMe for Maria because although my mother has fought cancer in the past, being diagnosed in February of 2013 with Stage 3 Breast Cancer and having gone into remission after a long-fought battle in February 2014, she is again fighting.
In November of 2016, Maria was diagnosed again, the cancer came back. Maria's treatment has already begun in an attempt to stop the cancer from spreading. She has had to leave her job due to the treatments and now she needs our help!
If there is anyone who can pull through this it's her, but she’s be going through a super taxing treatment and needs all the support she can get. Throughout this entire experience, she's never stopped caring for her family, friends, four children and husband with the same strength of a fully healthy woman. Like I said, she’s my hero.
One thing I know for sure about my mom is that she doesn't like to ask for help and I'm sure on many levels this page might sting that part of her… See, my mother has always been a brave fighter, having overcome her fair share of life-changing events.
Throughout her life she has been left to fend for herself, one of those times being a young single-mother of 3 children, working two or three jobs at a time to provide for her family. The life stories would take this post and turn it into a novel, but having witnessed her strength with my own two eyes growing up, I can say without a doubt that she always did her best and always tried to help those she loved. If she has a dime to her name, she would rather give it to someone in need – it’s time for us to return that kindness.
Our entire family was stunned but Maria has kept strong throughout her second tour of chemo treatments. The last few months have been emotional to say the least.
Maria is facing major financial challenges due to the medical expenses (and it's just started) and my mother doesn't have a lot to begin with. She has supported her family on a very modest budget, struggling often even prior to the Cancer treatments, which is why I'm asking for support on helping my mother cover her medical bills and the financial loss she's endured from not working throughout her treatment. She could use our help to get on her feet again and focus on what's truly important, getting healthy again.
Maria's strength never fails to shine through but between countless rounds of blood work, biopsies, PET scans, port surgery and injections, Maria is exhausted. And if you knew my mother, you'd know she never stops throughout her day.
Our family is doing whatever we can to help, but as an unfortunate many of you know, there is a huge financial burden associated with cancer.
