Maria Makrogianni is one of the most wonderful human beings I've ever met. If you don't believe me, watch the video I recently made about her.

She is known simply as Mamma Maria by the many hundreds of refugees stranded on Samos Island in Greece. And that's because from the moment she wakes up, she is thinking about them - How to help them, comfort them, feed them, clothe them...
She used to feed refugees who arrived on the island's coast them from her beach restaurant, but after receiving threatening phone calls by the far right, she was forced to close up shop.
Now, with her husband, she helps people from her home - cooking whatever she can every day from the ingredients she has in her cupboards.
But her money and resources are running out. And she depends on handouts and donations to keep up her good work.
We are not all angels like Mamma Maria and we don't all have the time, will or focus to devote ourselves to causes like this. But if we all did a little, it would mean a lot.
If we spread the message of Maria's good work and donated what we could - we could help make the next few months a little bit warmer and happier for those struggling to find hope this winter and we could fill their stomachs with some amazing and comforting Greek soul food. Let's do it... :-)
