Mozambique School Gate Fundraiser

Education is one of the most powerful ways to reduce childhood poverty. Mozambique was declared the world's poorest country in 1992, with high rates of childhood mortality. Lack of education is one of the primary reasons for Mozambique's poverty, with only half of the children finishing primary school.
Ocean First Travel, located in Boulder, Colorado, recently traveled to the region and visited Nhaguiua Primary School in Tofo Beach. It was there that they observed a particular area where they thought they could improve the educational experience and make the schoolyard a bit safer for the children at play.
The school has 645 students in grades 1st through 7th. It was opened in 2000 but only in 2011 started building with conventional building materials. The lack of infrastructure has created a safety concern for the children, particularly the lack of an adequate front gate.
Nhaguiua could benefit greatly from the installation of a main gate to protect the children from the busy road in front of the school. Raising $1,000 will provide funds to build the gate, including material and construction costs. Our goal is to raise the full amount by January 1st, 2017.
