My name is Renan Teodoro de Barros and I'm a brazilian student residing in Dublin.
I succesfully auditioned for the BFA in Musical Theatre at American College Dublin which started in September 2016, this programme is the 1st Musical Theatre Degree in Ireland and I am very proud of being part of it. We are making history as they say and I am the 1st South American/Brazilian in this course.
Throughout the year I've been given time to help recruit funds for the tuition (3rd Year starting September 2018) outside my busy timetable at college and work schedule ( I can work only part time, 20 hours a week due to my visa) and believe me I have tried most of the options I could find such as scholarships, grants, awards and all the answers were the same.
NO.
I am not European ( which adds €2.000 to my tuition) so I am not entitled to any of them.
My country cannot help me as we have no scholarships or grants directed to foreign Arts Education.
My family tries to send money to help but if it's hard for me, for them it's even harder so I don't think it is fair for them to send me money.
Especially for the fact that €1 in our currency in Brazil is around 4 Reais. Which means that any amount of money they could try to send, would be divided by 4 when it gets here to me.
I am proud of having many memorable achievements such as:
1st Year of College (2016-2017)
Performing at St. Ann's Church for American College Dublin's Graduation in October, at the National Concert Hall alongside Phil Coulter in November and was chosen as one of the soloists to perform at The Elaine Johnson Wold Theatre, Boca Raton in Florida (USA).
2nd Year of College (2017-2018)
Once again performed at St. Ann's Church for American College Dublin's Graduation in October, Toured as ensemble in Russel Watson's Songs From The Heart UK/Ireland Tour (Belfast, Dublin and Wexford) .
My next performance is:
Musical Theatre Celebration - Honoring The Works of Duos (Rodgers & Hammerstein and Kander & Ebb)
My tuition fees as Non-EU student are €8.500 and I am genuinely asking for any kind of donation so I can keep on living the dream. I enjoy every single minute I spend in Ireland, studying what I love to do, which is to perform.
Nothing in life is easy and I do not take chances for granted,
I had to learn English so I would be able to seek a better education.
I traveled more than 15 hours so I could get in Ireland to start studying.
I keep on getting by because of my own hardwork and drive to keep on making my dreams come true.
But now you can be part of this history too.
I honestly appreciate the time spent reading part of my story and the help you are giving me!
