Composing on a Very Long Walk

{the WHAT WHEN HOW WHY of my next steps}

WHAT: the Pacific Crest Trail runs from the US-Mexican border all the way north to the US-Canadian border. I'm going to be amongst the smaller percentage  of people hiking from North to South. I will walk through the following states: Washington, Oregon, and California.

WHEN: in a little over 100 days (July) I will start my thruhike as soon as Harts Pass snow levels reaches 0 . 

HOW: early rises, essentially i'll be walking mile after mile (averaging 20 miles a day) for five months straight carrying my food, sound gear and shelter on my back. Food, i'll be buying in trail towns/ pre-sending boxes to specific locations. the journey itself, the miles and miles will be quite solitary for the most part – but from what i've heard one's never really alone walking the PCT. 

WHY: the idea of hiking the PCT is rather odd per se. i'll be working on an Album TZED. it will let you join in on my journey from Canada to Mexico through my thruhiking series of on trail comps. so get prepared to light a pine-scented candle, put on your headphones and temporarily disappear. TZED will take you into snow storms (hopefully not too many), passes, beneath trees, on mountain peaks and open waters. it's guaranteed to make you shiver from the cold just by listening. i will be releasing the tracks in trail towns on a weekly basis. 

COMPOSITIONS: after recording sounds with my zoom h6 i will process the field recordings and layer musical responses using a seaboard roli & iPad pro and my violin. 

SO? my goal is to open my ears, your ears, see if our senses become sharper, getting a hang and by that, gradually, track by track, week by week better our understanding of the places we live in, each other, how we relate to the wilderness and the world, and, perhaps the arbitrary boundaries we've created for ourselves.
