Package thieves targeted a Shreveport house, robbing Little Leaguers of their uniforms just weeks before the start of their season.
"I had a sick feeling in my stomach," Beaux Waddell said. "It's one of those you're hoping for the best, but you know pretty much what happened."
The gear was stolen from his front porch in the city's Broadmoor neighborhood.
"They obviously opened it up on the front porch because they discarded about 11 total things in the garbage in the back once they saw it was custom-made jerseys, small jerseys, small pants."
The theft affects five teams, leaving about 60 youths without their team garb.
"They start the season in two weeks, and these take four weeks to make," Waddell said. "They are custom-made for each kid."
The gear is worth more than $4,000 to the team members and their parents.
That's money Waddell said now will have to come out of his pocket.
"That's the only thing you can do. You can't not do it, because it hurts the kids even more. And it's not fair to the parents to ask them to pay double. It's just a bad situation."
Little League mother Britni Pittman said she is upset and sad for their coach.
"Our kids were so looking forward to their first T-ball season in their new uniforms with their names. And we have nothing now," she said.
"We just hope that whoever did this will understand that they have no use for them and please return them or leave them somewhere that they can be found."
Waddell said he was in the process of filing a report with Shreveport police.
