Help LGBT Homeless Youth in NYC

Why is Pride Month in June?

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month (LGBT Pride Month) is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan. The Stonewall riots were a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States

The statistics for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) homeless youth are even more shocking, as this group represents up to 40% all young people experiencing homelessness. Considering that LGBT youth represent an estimated 7% of the total youth population, these numbers are disproportionately high.

Fundraising Event for Ali Forney Center & New Alternatives

In collaboration with LGBT Craft Beer Meetup, Big aLICe Brewing Co. has brewed a 'pride' beer “Biere De Fierté” to fundraise for LGBT youth in NYC - a Lemongrass, Ginger Belgian Tripel (LGBT, get it?).  100% of The profit made from on-site brewery sales and from sold merchandise designed exclusively for the event, we hope throughout the month of June to put together multiple events in partnership with other Meetup groups, to raise money and awareness for the 40% of homeless youth on our country and city that have very few options of safety and comfort.

By organizing multiple events in partnership with Big aLICe Brewing, NYC craft beer bars, and other Meetup groups, our goal throughout the month of June is to raise money and awareness for the 40% homeless youth who have have limited access to safe spaces and living environments.  The proceeds from on-site brewery sales and from sold merchandise designed exclusively for the event, will be donated to the Ali Forney Center and New Alternatives

Through these foundations' continuous efforts, youth have increasingly more access to shelter, education, job training, nourishment, and communities that help them feel supported and ever-encouraged.  These foundations aim to strengthen self-esteem and help youth discover the positivity of the LGBTQ community.

Our hope is to partner with GoFundMe to raise funds and awareness in conjunction with the LGBT Collaboration Beer Release Party on June 23rd and throughout the month of June. We invite you to join LGBT Craft Beer Meetup and Big aLICe Brewing Co. raise awareness

$50+ Donations will get you an exclusive event T-shirt!

The Ali Forney Center

Committed to saving the lives of LGBTQ young people, in 2002 Carl Siciliano founded the Ali Forney Center (AFC) in memory of Ali. Since AFC's launch with just six beds in a church basement, the organization has grown to become the largest agency dedicated to LGBTQ homeless youths in the country—assisting nearly 1,400 youths per year through a 24-hour Drop-In Center which provides over 70,000 meals annually, medical and mental health services through an on-site clinic, and a scattered site housing program.

Our mission is to provide LGBTQ young people housing and a continuum of supportive services to help them thrive and prepare them for independent living.

AFC has been heralded for our full continuum of care approach to services for LGBTQ homeless youth. AFC's founder, Carl Siciliano, was named a White House Champion of Change by President Obama citing the wide recognition AFC's programs have received for their quality and innovation.

New Alternatives

Guiding by the principles of harm reduction, youth development and empowerment, New Alternatives increases the self-sufficiency of homeless LGBTQ youth to enable them to go beyond the shelter system and transition to stable adult lives. We accomplish this by providing case management, community organizing, life skills groups, community-building recreational activities and supported employment opportunities.

In late 2008, Kate Barnhart reached out to a small group of her friends and associates to discuss creating a new group to serve the homeless youth population in New York City. Kate recognized from her years of involvement with this population that there was an unfilled need for continuous, long-term case management. An independent organization that would consistently support youth in all stages of homelessness and help them embark and progress on the path to self-sufficiency. Under Kate’s leadership, that small group of like-minded individuals assembled a program comprised of case management and life skills education that laid the foundation for   New Alternatives.

Big aLICe Brewing & LGBT Craft Beer Meetup

BIG aLICe BREWING is a licensed New York State farm brewery dedicated to crafting innovative, locally-sourced beer.  Distributing to New York City bars and restaurants, the brewery is proud to be located in Queens, New York City.   Big aLICe Brewing believes in the potential for beer to support and build community, and wants their beer to start conversations about what it means to be local, and about the process of making great beer.

Big aLICe is committed to serving and helping the community through fundraising efforts by brewing collaboration ales with other breweries and organizations.  This is the 2nd collaboration between Big aLICe Brewing and LGBT Craft Beer Meetup.  LGBT Craft Beer Meetup was founded by Chef Alexa Wilkinson, who at the time was the Food Director for a NYC based craft beer-centric restaurant group. LGBT Craft Beer Meetup's philosophy is simple: raise money for charity while drinking beer in a safe space for the LGBT community to enjoy beer. Every event is sponsored by the brewery featured for the event, and 100% of the proceeds go to local and national charities. We are proud and excited to be able to support The Ali Forney Center and New Alternatives in honor of Pride Month.
