Help Leon Bidlow Fund His Kidney Transplant

Donation protected
Leon has spent his life providing for his family and being a mentor of many. After a life of helping others, Leon Bidlow needs your help in order to fund his kidney transplant and the recovery thereafter. A kidney transplant costs a minimum of hundreds of thousands of dollars - hence why we need your help.

What happened:

On Mother's day, 2018, Leon Bidlow (my dad) went into the emergency room with high blood pressure, and was soon told that he was walking around in complete kidney failure. This was the first domino to fall in a series of events which lead to my posting of this request for your donation.

To put it simply, Leon's length of life and quality of life both depend on whether or not we can fund his kidney transplant and the associated costs. We have multiple candidates for kidney donation, but what we do not have are the funds to complete the surgery and support the family during the time when he will not be allowed to work.

Though dialysis has kept him alive since the fateful day he went into the hospital, dialysis and the associated procedures have also led to complications which have threatened his life and impacted his health further.

Since his original hospital stay, he has suffered a stroke following a dialysis treatment and has a large clot in his jugular vein from the surgery which placed the catheter into this neck & heart. He is currently in the hospital with a serious blood infection, which was able to enter his body through the catheter that is used for dialysis treatment.

The mortality rate of people being sustained by dialysis is grim, and it is in no way a viable long term option. It depletes your energy, takes time away from work and family life, and drastically increases your risk of heart attack, stroke, and infection. He has already suffered from two of the three. At a required 15 hour per week, being on dialysis prevents you from going anywhere or doing anything other than working, going to treatment, going home, and repeating the cycle.

A kidney transplant would reduce or eliminate the risks associated with dialysis and end stage kidney disease, and would allow him to get back on track and take control of his life.

Why we need the funds:

The reason we need money for Leon to get a kidney transplant is due to the fact that kidney transplants are very expensive, and recipients must spend the months following surgery on strong drugs which eliminate the body's immune function. This is necessary in order to prevent rejection of the donated kidney, but it means that he cannot go anywhere or do anything for multiple months following the surgery.

Because of this, Leon cannot work during the first 3 to 6 months of his recovery, despite his desire to work. Being the sole earner of the family, his leave of absence is of great concern to our entire family, particularly because he still has three young kids at home and a loving wife who need his support. There may be an additional need for some of the funds to support the kidney donor, as they also require time off from work to undergo tests, the surgery, and the recovery. As of now, my uncle and I are the two potential donors.

If you choose to donate and help our family, you will not only give my father a new lease on life, but you will also help ensure that his youngest children have the dad they need to give them the guidance that us older kids were blessed to be given in our childhood. You will help drastically improve a man's life who has dedicated himself to supporting others. You will make a real difference.

If you have questions or something relevant to discuss, feel free to reach out via the contact info on this page.

We thank you for taking the time to read this and consider donating. Collectively, we can make a real difference in his life.

Kind Regards,

Cody Bidlow
