Help Lenny and Melissa's Family

On September 16th, 2019 Lenny Mort was rushed into major emergency surgery to save his life from a ruptured bowel.

The surgery was expected to take two hours, but due to the extent of the rupture and serious risk of life-threatening outcomes, the actual surgery was an unbroken five and a half harrowing hours under the knife. The medical staff at Abbotsford General hospital cut out a whopping ten inches of his large intestine and bypassed his lower bowel with a colostomy bag, leaving behind a massive foot-long incision extending from his ribcage to his groin.

Lenny suffers from a medical condition called diverticulitis  that occurs when the normally smooth inner wall of the intestine forms little pouches and pockets that become infected and inflamed.

These inflamed pouches and pockets can fester and rupture causing what should be a normally enclosed tube-like bowel, to now spring a leak just like a burst water pipe, this allows bacteria and fecal matter to leak out and infect the rest of the abdominal cavity.

When this occurs the emergency procedure is to cut out the now ruptured and broken section of bowel, then do the best to clean the infectious mess in the abdominal cavity and finally redirect the bowel to an external plastic (colostomy) bag.

Just. Wow. Serious stuff.

Imagine now waking up from this surgery, looking down and seeing your belly stitched up, tubes everywhere and a plastic bag attached to your side where for the next six months of more your stool will end up.

.... your next thought moves immediately from yourself and to your family. Life is upside down... What will happen now? What do we do now?

Beyond the obvious immediate personal suffering he is currently experiencing from this near-death experience, his family are in deep need of assistance from all of us. Melissa, and four young children aged just 5 to 12 years old, Rose, Elizabeth, Jude and Annabelle.

Unfortunately, in the absence of insurance coverage to cover Lenny's loss of income into the family, the current financial outlook is a frightening one. With at least the next six months of recovery ahead for Lenny and his family, they need more than just acute help today, but some relief that will help alleviate financial pressure for at least several months.

Your donation will go directly to Melissa and Lenny to provide for the needs and expenses of operating a busy family household.

My name is Alex Zogheb. Lenny and I have known each other for nearly 25 years. I consider him a brother, not a friend. Those who know Lenny or even just met him at a party, know of his boisterous energy, kind heart and love for those close to him.

Please help now. Even $5 makes a difference.

Thank you.
