Help Koty

Koty was born on 3/4/17 to Leah & Zar of Eden German Shepherds.  He was a beautiful puppy.  In late October a resident of our community asked if they could play fetch with Koty.  My wife told him “yes you can play with him but DO NOT throw the stick Up throw it forward only”.  This person immediately threw the stick up high in the air and Koty jumped up to get it and fell onto his chest.  My wife told this person again “only to throw the stick forward”.  This time they threw the stick backward and Koty jumped up to get the stick and fell backwards onto his hips.  Koty was crying and my wife brought him home.  Apparently this person JUST didn’t-understand that you do not throw a stick high up in the air on a large breed puppy.

She called our Vet.  Dr. Lori Hunt of Center West Animal Hospital and took Koty in.  Initially we were concerned about broken bones.  Dr. Hunt hunt said no bones were broken but Koty was sore.  She prescribed Duramax.  On Monday morning it seemed Koty wasn’t himself was having some difficulty breathing and we rushed Koty to our vet.  Dr. Hunt did X-rays and advised us Koty had suffered a SEVERE chest injury.  Koty had so much fluid surrounding his lungs she had to do a Chest Tap.  Koty was in guarded condition.  Koty was in doggie ICU for 2 days.  We brought him home each night and my wife slept on the couch for 2 weeks.  On November 17th we noticed Koty was still limping badly.  We took Koty to Dr.  Hunt and she X-rayed Koty again and diagnosed Koty with a severe case of Panosteitis.  Pano is a painful inflammation of the outer surface of the long bones.  Koty cannot be neutered until his Pano has resolved itself.

Koty medicatioon alone cost a $600.  Month from November to June and from July to present it has been $400. A month.

Koty had more X-rays on June 30th and it appears that Koty will now need a Left Hip Replacement.  This is why we started the Go Fund Me.  We can no longer afford the Vet-bills.  Dr. Hunt suggested water therapy.   Koty loves it!

My wife has been taking Koty for water therapy and today we are happy to report Koty has regained some of the muscle he lost but will still need a hip replacement.  Koty is scheduled to see the Orthopedic Surgeon on September 7, 2018.

All of the GSD owners can appreciate such a crisis with a now beloved member of your family at 8 months old to have such a tragic accident.

P.S.  the person that caused Koty’s injury has not accepted any responsibility.  My wife confronted this person and they ran into their garage and shut the garage door.  He didn’t-say one word.  So I have an angry woman on my hands.
