Help Kelly Martin Fight Lung Cancer

Donation protected
Kelly Sciacca Martin is my sister.  She is the mother of my amazing niece, Lindsey.  She is a sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, friend and devout Christian.  She is in the FIGHT for her life and we need help.

On April 11, 2018 Kelly was diagnosed with stage IV Lung Cancer (small cell carcinoma).  Within a matter of hours her diagnosis went from having a pulled muscle to pneumonia to terminal cancer.  At that moment she made the decision to FIGHT for her life with God's grace directing her with each step and every decision we will FIGHT with her - and we ask you to join in her FIGHT for life.

The first course of action was to place a stent in her lung to open the airway enough to breathe with minimal distress.  Kelly was then offered an opportunity to be part of a trial drug - a new autoimmune chemotherapy, which has had extremely good results treating other forms of cancer. However, we soon learned an unforeseen detail in her diagnosis disqualified her from this trial. She remains in the FIGHT for her life.

Her first rounds of chemotherapy began and the results were better than expected with the tumors shrinking considerably. She was feeling better, breathing better, and hope was restored!  Being a person of strong faith, Kelly decided to supplement her medical treatment with a very strict holistic form of treatment, which is very costly, but necessary. She is in the FIGHT for her life.

Her ability to FIGHT became complicated from the side effects of chemotherapy.  She developed pneumonia and was again hospitalized. Another cat scan showed no improvement and Kelly chose to stop all chemical treatment and continue with the holistic regimen.  She added the new therapies that are not covered through insurance. She's still in the FIGHT for her life.

Kelly decided to try chemotherapy again.  She is still in the FIGHT for her life. The very successful trial which Kelly was disqualified from earlier has now been approved by the FDA.  WE NOW HAVE NEW HOPE.  This treatment has had remarkable success with fewer side effects. She started the new drug on 10/25/18. We are full of HOPE that there are better days in my beautiful sister's future.

While it can be hard to ask for help, sometimes the circumstances are beyond what one family can endure. Kelly is a giver, not a receiver and this has been a difficult direction for her to accept. She specifically asked that I tell you that love and prayers are more important to her. If a gift is within your charitable budget, and will not cause you financial hardship, we would welcome you to join her in the FIGHT for her life with a charitable donation.

I welcome you to share Kelly's story to your own FB page as a way to allow as many people attainable to help in however they see fit in Kelly's FIGHT for her life.
