Help Nurse Debi defeat stage 4 lung cancer!

Donation protected

On April 4th, 2019, our mother (Debra) asked us to take her to the hospital. After a bunch of tests, they found a mass in her lung. A few days later we discovered that mass was cancer. It had metastasized and spread to her lymph nodes. She was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.

Since then she has been receiving treatment and it seems to be helping tremendously. We have run into a few unfortunate road blocks, though.  It is no secret that the health care situation in this country is awful. My mom has insurance, but still has high expenses. So far she has accumulated over $36,000 in medical bills, and co-pays. She can’t continue care without paying some of these bills.

That’s not all, though. The hospital in which she has been receiving her treatment and in which all of her doctors work, will be “out of network” with her insurance provider by December. This means she won’t be able to continue her treatment there without it completely coming out of pocket. It is extremely hard to remain positive and focused on healing when you are constantly thinking about paying bills and if you are going to even be able to continue care with the doctors you have invested your entire life into.

My family has gathered all of the resources we can to try and take care of this ourselves without having to humbly ask for help, but it has gotten to the point where we can’t keep up and we need all the help we can get. My mom has continued to work full time despite receiving intense chemo and other treatments. Unfortunately, bills don’t go away when you get sick, and being the Rock my mom is, there are literally hundreds of people who depend on her physically and emotionally including the hundreds of patients she takes care of.

For those of you that don’t know our mom, here is a bit about her that shows just how much she cares for others.

Debra Meyers-Williams has spent her entire life selflessly giving to others in many facets. She has been a nurse for 35 years, tirelessly giving her days to people who need all the love they can get and making sure they are getting better. I can safely say she is the greatest at what she does and for 35 years its as if she has adopted thousands of people and feels every bit of emotion for these individuals and their families as if they were her own. During her stay at the hospital, she was helping take care of the patients that where in the room next to her even though she was hooked up to an IV and just had surgery.

She has been a mother for 30 years tirelessly giving away her evenings, weekends and sick days to her children, making sure we received every single thing we needed and much more. She was the sole care giver to us. She has been the greatest mentor and role model that any parent can be. She is our personal best friend, and we go to her for everything, but also anyone and everyone could come to her and talk about anything.

Now she is a grandmother to Jordan’s son Daniel, and soon to be Courtney’s baby. Daniel is the light of her life. They completely adore each other. And we know she can’t wait until the new grandchild arrives.

Like most people who live so selflessly its hard to do things for yourself or even ask for help or receive help. My mom is only 57 years old and we all need her around for much longer. My mom is going to live much longer but we just need a bit of help to get her there. Debra has been no stranger to health issues and has had 17 surgeries on many different things. A friend told me that my mom is on the greatest winning streak of all time and that if he’s a betting man he’s betting on the team that’s 17-0 to go 18-0. Anything you can give even if it’s just words of encouragement we really appreciate. Let’s keep Debra Meyers-Williams on her winning streak!
Please help my mom go 18-0 ❤️
