Need funds for hernia & treatment

$885 of $3,000 goal

Eric Thomas  FONTANA, CA
My name is Eric,
I'm in need of a hernia repair operation and post op care.
I was recently struck with a hernia in January.
My Dad was also afflicted with hernias, it runs in the family.
This time it's a left inguinal hernia, formerly I had a right inguinal hernia.

Today what makes it even more complicated is that I'm outside without a place to sleep in the Los Angeles area, time and money are running out, I'm trying to survive the waiting time til surgery.

I've qualified for full "Los Angeles county medi-Cal" and but haven't received a medi-cal card, or seen an approved physician.

Time and resources are running out for me, I'm already sleeping outside.

I'm setting a figure of $3,000 with the expectation medi-Cal will cover all the surgery costs, but leave a large gap in funding convalescent costs.

"go fund me" was suggested by a real pleasant guy I met at a support group in Hollywood, Ca. He was badly beaten up by a street person with golf clubs. He then raised enough money with gofundme to get help.

I want this surgery so I can rise out of homelessness and work again.
The last job I held was a truck driving job for a company out of Chicago which ended around October last year.

The most recent trucking jobs I've been working have been using 1099 forms ftherebyor payroll making me ineligible for California state disability insurance, and because this is not a permanent disability,  presumably I would be ineligible for Social Security Insurance.

A little background, I'm 51 and from an average east coast middle class family, I've been trying to survive on my own in California since '96

My father & grandfather ran a tug boat business off of Staten Island, New York. The company was dissolved in the 70's, then in the mid to late 80's my mother died of cancer, my brother Glen and I grew apart and sold the house, the only real home I've ever known,  shortly thereafter.
In the mid 90's I left the New York area for the west and a fresh start.  My father died in the mid 2000's.

Somehow I've survived to this day but this is not my first experience of homelessness.
Somehow I've always managed to make it through rough times, but I really need some help to make it through this.

A little more background, I'm a high school graduate with some college, and trucking is the career I've been at the longest.
My father and grandfather worked and owned a tug boat company off Staten Island, NY.

It was my intent to investigate other avenues of interest after leaving my last job,  singing, writing songs, playing  keyboard and other things but because of this hernia i am quite unable to do most of the things people take for granted like running ,  jumping,  fast movements,
even singing is painful.

Nor can I carry keyboard and
equipment around.

I still hold a valid Class A driver's license with a clean record.

Living outside, without an income or family support is terrifying and traumatizing.
Besides the issues of rain, cold, wind, "code enforcement agents (police)" there are violent people and places out here to avoid.  It is not safe and my life us in danger.

I should mention that I don't use alcohol and  in March of this year, it will have been 20 years off alcohol.

I'm at the end of my run here, and the road ahead is fraught with danger,  and any help is greatly appreciated.

I apologize for any mistakes, omissions or if I said too much or too little here.

thank you,

Eric

Thank you all so much for the donations, it's pouring rain in southern California and I was able to get into a hostel shelter and I don't know how to thank you.

Eric is not out of the woods yet and there are trials ahead, #1 It's not safe here and if a safe post operative recovery location is not attainable, well...

The "medi-Cal health insurance provider" has approved "my case" and an appointment has been made with one of their "doctors" for early this week for diagnosis and referral. The "doctor" will refer me to a "surgeon" and one of these 2 "professionals" will determine the post-operative recovery time period "medically necessary" to be covered by insurance. That determination seems to be of critical importance because if I were to return to truck driving afterward, it's a physical job and the proper length of recovery time would be of necessity. And these "doctors" may well want to cut corners to save their insurance company bosses insurance pay out "money."
I hope I'm wrong about this.
I may have to set a new campaign goal or start another campaign as needed.
Thank you all again so much.

New update, emergency room doctor (John) diagnosed; "Acute Reducible Left Inguinal Hernia"

a non-emergency hernia meaning no immediate surgery.

Reccomendations, avoid standing, no heavy lifting, avoid smoking or getting sick with a cold to avoid coughing. Drink fluids, eat fruits and vegetables to avoid constipation.

Please visit my go fund me site for donating, that I might afford a hostel to get indoors while waiting for the wheels of bureaucracy to slowly turn.

Thanks
Eric

Update from "Eric from the grave" Good news, it didn't rain last night, Eric's gear wasn't stolen, and the "police" didn't cite Eric for any various infractions of "Babylonian commercial code."
It's always good to start with gratitude.

Last night like nights before around "4:40 am goy time"
a "city vehicle" of some sort rolled down the road with a siren going, as what could of only be seen as a psychological operation to terrorize any stranded souls outside without shelter.
Yesterday at the Medi-Cal office a temporary card was issued and a "choice" of health care providers was offered that will take 2 long weeks to initiate.
When your stranded outside w/o shelter "time is short but days are long"

The ravages of living outside, near the ocean, are taking it's toll on my soul, my clothes, shoes, gear, patience and so on. There is rain forecast and the phone bill ($45) is coming due. Travel on public transit, food prices are terrorizing.
donate what you can.
