Setting the Scene.
I’m Kayla, a 27-year-old transwoman. I’m a writer, a video editor, and a lover of tabletop roleplaying games. Last year I came to realize who I was and have striven to do what I can to live my own truth.
With this comes a lot of hardship. I was informed recently that my insurance would not cover Hormone Replacement Therapy, as all of the local practices that offer these services are out of my network. I would need to pay out of pocket, and unfortunately there are no payment plans at the nearby facility. Everything from the appointment, consultation, tests, would need to be payed upfront. I live paycheck to paycheck and cannot afford the kind of money it would take to start my transition.
I have also come to learn, after speaking with my counselor, that it would be better to leave my current living situation, and either live on my own or stay with friends, given that my home life is not only unsafe, but detrimental to my wellbeing.
The Cost of Living.
What is this all going to take? Currently, I feel that asking for a large lump sum would be difficult. Right now, I am focusing on the initial costs of initial HRT appointments, as I think that is the first step for me going forward. I will be updating the GoFundMe as things change.
A thousand dollars would pay for the initial appointment with the doctor, pay for any tests and blood work that would need to be done, as well as, for the follow up appointment. With this, and if the doctor gives the greenlight, I would be able to procure any of the hormones or medicine I would need for the beginning months.
After that, I can start looking to moving expenses, as well as any additional procedures. That cannot happen if I do not have the money to even begin.

I have realized that I cannot do this alone. I need help. I cannot afford either medical services, or the costs of moving and searching for a place to live, so I am reaching out to you.
I simply want to be me. I want to be able to look at myself in the mirror and be able to feel right. I wish to live my own truth, my own life. I have learned it is not shameful to ask those around you for help, if they can. Give if you can. Share if you can. It means the world to me. Thank you, for helping me live my truth.
