Help Katrina be brain tumor free

My name is Katrina. I am a single mother to a fourteen year old boy with special needs.

I was involved in a serious automobile accident earlier this year.  I was rear ended by an SUV on full impact while my car was at a stop. The impact lunged my car into the vehicle in front me. During the course of my treatment the doctors discovered a brain tumor. I have begun to suffer and  will continue to suffer the effects of the tumor for years to come.

I noticed my left leg buckling and my left foot was dragging behind slightly when I walked.  I knew something was wrong when I began feeling the numbness, tingling and heaviness on my left leg. When I called the hospital I was immediately instructed to go to urgent care.

The urgent care doctor saw noticeable weakness to my left leg and immediately sent me to Stanford Hospital emergency room. When I was seen by the doctor at Stanford ER he knew it was related to my tumor and ordered a CT scan. While waiting to be brought for my scan I suddenly noticed my foot began to swing outwards, then swung side to side, then my foot started turning in and up violently and my toes intertwining. I was having a violent seizure due to the swelling in my brain caused by the tumor.  The seizure proceeded to go up  the left side of my body.  I was screaming for medicine. My only thought was if I did not have medication in time the seizure would be fatal and I was worried about my son.

The neurosurgeon  at Stanford had to do an emergency operation to remove the tumor.  My life, changed, forever. I lost mobility to my left leg from my toes through to my upper thigh. I had a craniotomy to resection the tumor.  The doctors could not take the tumor out in its entirety because it would have been dangerous and could cause further complications, so a portion of the tumor continues to remain in my brain. I was in ICU until I was stable. After nearly two weeks at Stanford Hospital. My neurosurgeon transferred me to another hospital, Santa Clara Valley Medical hospital for further recovery from my craniotomy, and it is an acute rehabilitation facility which would allow me to slowly be able to strengthen my body So that I may learn to walk again. I was in the hospital for nearly a month.

My journey has not ended. The pathology report stated that my brain tumor is an ATYPICAL MENINGIONA, WHO GRADE II.  This is a fast growing tumor and can return in as little as five years with many complications such as seizures and loss of mobility.

My situation is urgent as I have to continue to do several types of therapy which will allow me to function daily and to continue with my recovery and to be able to walk on my own. I am currrently on high fall and high seizure risk.  I will have to undergo radiation towards the end of July.

I have started this Go Fund Me campaign to help cover my medical expenses.  Your help would be greatly appreciated by my son and I.  I need to be able to fully recover, not only for myself but most of all for my son who is autistic and needs my help every single day.

The hospital stay, emergency operation, radiation, oncology, the many doctors (10 from my last count), after care, physical, speech and occupational therapy at home and as an outpatient, medication, medical equipment, co-pays, nursing care are all overwhelming.  I need to focus on a full recovery for myself and my son and need help with my medical expenses.

Please help us at this crucial time in our lives.  I will be updating my medical progress through this page. Thank you.

With peace, love, gratitude and appreciation,

Katrina
