Help needed for June

Junes Story

June was rescued from China; she was a survivor of the dog meat trade. We flew her to our Rescue on May 30th. She had no hope in China.  She had surgery in China on her front legs that were broken ; her front legs healed and are now fine.  She always had mobility problems with her back end.  She hops like a bunny, and walks on her hocks.  We thought some rehabilitation would help her legs… We had no idea that the diagnosis from our vet would be so devastating.

When June arrived, she appeared to be in pain.  She traveled in the Cargo area during the long 14-hour flight to the US.  She was actually in the crate for more than 20 hours total between transport to the airport and the domestic flight in China. Therefore, we thought her joints were just stiff at first as anyones would be from not being able to move around much.  We noticed that she was also incontinent. She could not hold her urine or stools. We also thought this could be stress and a new environment. She was not incontinent in China.

After her exam at our vet and x-rays we found out that one of Junes problems, that causes her to hop with her back legs is that she was born deformed with no hip sockets.  There is nothing to hold them in place...Therefore,  her legs just move around with little control. We were told this would be described as the most extreme and severe form of hip dysplasia, whereas many dogs need to be euthanized because pain is so hard to control. The vet indicated that she would need a total hip replacement to walk normally .    As if this was not bad enough the x ray’s also showed that she had a degenerated disk and spinal injury. It appeared it could be a new injury, and this is probably causing her incontinence that she never had in China. The hip surgery is needed not only so she can walk  normally without pain, it will also help eliminate pressure on her spine.

We have spoken with the shelter in China, and again we were told she was not incontinent there.  Our only conclusion is that she was injured during the flight. We did an internet search, and found horror stories of how cargo crates are just thrown down by airport employees, and no care is taken when they move them. Now we feel her spine was injured on the ride in the plane. As her hips are bad, there would be no way for her to brace herself if the crate bounced around or fell. She could have been tossed around like a rag doll.

June is only 1 years old. She now is in pain for her spinal problem and her hip problem. A wheel cart will not solve this problem of Junes. She still has feeling in her spine, legs and hips…she is not paralyzed. She would still be in pain even with a wheel cart.  We need to give her a chance at a great life that she has never had… We need to get her the surgery that she deserves.

We will be taking June for her MRI next week and consult with an orthopedic surgeon and neurologist.  The MRI and consultation alone will be $1600-$1800. We will then continue to try to raise funds for Junes Surgery. We cannot let her down… she desperately needs this… there are no other choices for her.

We are a rescue with little funds. We don't do weekly fundraisers. We only ask for donations when we have an emergency or a specific cause.
We are begging everyone to give up one cup of coffee a week and donate toward Junes medical expenses. We can not rescue again until June gets the medical attention she deserves.
