Help Julian's dog get trained!

This is Julian he loves to pretend to be Spiderman or Venom. He say’s when he grows up he plans to be a superhero, so he can save people. Julian loves animals, collecting rock or fossils, learning about dinosaurs, playing games, and loves to pretend to be Spiderman or Venom.

The reason we are reaching out to our community is because Julian really need our communities support. He has medical issues since birth, it seems like we are always going to doctors or therapy offices. At age 9 months Julian was wearing bifocals. Julian has had 4 eye surgeries by the age of 4 years old and has had tubes placed in his ears due to frequent ear infections and hearing loss. Julian to this day still has hearing loss and vision issues and may have to have another surgery next year to help straighten his muscles.

Julian is 7 year old; he was diagnosed with ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Sensory Process disorder, developmentally delayed, and Severe Anxiety. Julian has difficulty with communication and interaction with other people, so it difficult for him to play with others his age. Julian is going through therapy to help with social skills, behavior, sensory processing disorder, and severe anxiety. These symptoms inhibit their ability to function properly in school and other areas of life.

Julian receives intensive therapy, the on-going care has been challenging. We have utilized Behavioral Support, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Social Groups. Close relatives have been a constant support to our family and have given their time and financial support to make sure our son receive the care he needs. He also receives services at school such as Speech, Special Education, and Title 1 reading.

The reason we started a GoFundMe account is because their therapists recommend they are supported by a specially trained psychiatric therapy dog. These dogs are trained to identify and assist those that are undergoing an anxiety attack, frustration with the ability to communicate, and also provide sensory input to help keep them calm. Research has shown that these dogs can help shorten melt-downs and provide a safe companion when sensory input is needed.

Julian takes medication to help him to function at school, eat, and sleep. Julian has a very hard time going to sleep. Sometimes his medication makes him hallucinate or give him night terrors, so we have had to change his dosage or medications completely. Julian also suffers from panic attacks, when they are triggered he gets so upset he makes him sick.

Julian also wears orthopedic braces and orthopedic shoes due to his feet due to having Overpronation. That is when the arches of the foot roll inward or downward when walking, and is often referred as flat feet. He has been going to therapy and has been wearing braces for almost a year. They were not able to fix much, so he will be wearing braces and orthopedic shoes as an adult. Due to the issues with his feet it is difficult for Julian to walk for a long period of time. If we go to the zoo Julian has to stop and take a lot of breaks or lean on something. It so he could benefit using a service dog to help guide him or anchor him when he gets tired.

***Update***

Julian was donated a hypoallergenic dog from a family in our community. We are trying to raise funds to get the dog the training he needs to help Julian. Julian received Weasley on February 8th and they have bonded well. We have been working on basic training at home. But Weasley will need training from a experienced trainer to become a service dog.

Our goal is to raise money to support of our son so that he can have the companionship of a psychiatric service dog that will help him develop and gain some independence

Thank you so much for your consideration and generosity,
