Help Joliette Get Back Home
$5,311 of $3,000 goal
Joliette is a punk band from Puebla, Mexico. They've toured quite literally all over the world over the past 7 years, and are one of Mexico's foundational punk bands, consistently bringing some of the best bands in the US on tours through Mexico and making a name for themselves across the globe through constant touring.
They were just about to wrap up a small run of West coast + Canadian dates with bands Nuvolascura, Senza, and Elle when they were attempting to re-enter the US yesterday after their Vancouver show on May 31st.
Well, yesterday (June 3rd) Border patrol stopped the band from crossing back into the states and ended up questioning them for nearly 4 hours before deciding to deny them access back into the US and banning their Visas from entry to the US for the next FIVE years.
Right now, the band is currently holed up near Vancouver, Canada until they can find a way back home.
A friend has graciously offered to return their rented vehicle back to San Diego, which is expected to cost close to $1,000 between gas and rental fees, and they now have the financial burden of covering travel expenses for six people and all of their gear + merch, including flights, and any sort of meals they can scrounge up in the meantime, among other various travel expenses, estimated at roughly a minimum of $2,000.
Not to mention missing out on 6 more shows on their current run of tour dates down the west coast, and a gigantic US tour that was supposed to happen this fall. They're simply hoping to cover travel expenses and help the band from going further into debt from this unfortunate situation.
Recap of Estimated expenses:
$2,000 to cover flights, food, and extra expenses for 6 people, including gear, merch, and personal belongings from Vancouver to Mexico City.
$1,000 to cover expenses and gas for the rental car a friend will return to San Diego from Vancouver.
All funds raised from this campaign will go directly to the band. Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if it's just sharing this campaign. Let's get these caring souls back home safe.
Additional ways to help:
PayPal donations can be sent directly to firstname.lastname@example.org
Digital downloads can be purchased from their bandcamp page: https://joliette.bandcamp.com/
The first withdrawal hit my bank account today, so I sent it over to the band and they were able to find flights back home tomorrow! I'll continue to pass along funds to the band as long as the funds keep hitting my bank account.
The band is absolutely blown away by all of the love. We've already raised more than we could ever imagine, so we'll be closing up donations to the campaign tomorrow as soon as we confirm the band has arrived back home safely.
The band is brainstorming some way to say thank you to everyone that came to their side this week. I'm sure it will be very special.
Thanks endlessly to everyone. This is why the punk scene around the world is so great. My goal is to try and find a way to get the band back to the states ASAP. Until then, they'll be carrying on with their worldwide dates (sans US) for the rest of the year. Please give them a hug if you are able to catch them on tour.
All the love,
We're staying in touch with the band to make sure they're taken care of until they make it back home.
The issue at large remains, but it seems like the band can get home safely without too much debt at the moment. Right now, all of the extra donations will continue to pass through to the band to help out with any additional expenses.
If any more news develops, we'll keep you posted. Much love to everyone that has shared our posts, donated, or offered kind words. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
The first withdrawal has been initiated but the money isn't expected to hit my bank account until June 12th as it can take up to 5 business days to transfer.
I'm advancing the band a portion of funds from Skeletal Lightning's account to help cover the rental car and gas fees for now. The band is currently looking into flight possibilities. Will keep everyone posted once we figure out more. Thank you endlessly, again, from the bottom of my heart for taking care of this very special band.
Since we've now raised the estimated $2,000 to help the band buy flights home, I'll begin the withdrawal process immediately following this update to get the first portion of money over to them as quickly as possible and to help expedite their trip back home.
The band's true expenses will far surpass the estimated $3,000 total. Any additional donations over the $3,000 mark will continue to be donated to the band to help recoup things like the non-refundable flights they booked before this Visa issue took place and other various logistical nightmares that they may/have yet to face.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your kindness, generosity, and support. I'm truly speechless and very appreciative of our special community here.
