Help Jimi and Kimi

In December 2018, Jimi was diagnosed with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma. After various diagnostic tests and appointments with specialists, it was decided that removal was the best course of action. On Feb 25th, he had a 12 hour surgery to perform a maxillectomy to remove the tumor in his hard palate & sinus cavity. Directly followed by an extensive free flap reconstruction using his left fibula bone and skin. During surgery he aspirated fluid into his lungs and developed pneumonia. This led to 9 days in ICU, on and off a ventilator, with a total of 11 days spent in George Wash Univ Hosp. We recently learned the procedure was not completely successful. As the surgeon was not able to remove all the cancer. Therefore, Radiation treatment begins on April 22nd at INOVA Fairfax Hosp. And will continue everyday for the next 7 weeks. This treatment will generate many known and unknown hurdles to come.
As many of you know, I too, have been out of work, recovering from a lupus-induced stroke in Jan 2019. I am now full-time care giver to Jimi. He, himself, has been off work and will continue to be through the summer.
The positives:
Since the diagnosis, we made a very conscious choice to move swiftly with treatment and refuse to give life to any of the terribleness that is this disease. It will not be a part of us. It will be here and then gone. We speak no life into it.
It took something this big to give indescribable meaning to 22 years of love & marriage and a nice, quiet life in our home town. My personal faith has grown with every passing day. Many friendships have been reborn. Whether you believe or not, I am here to bear witness to many of God's miracles. The unsolicited acts of kindness from friends and strangers has been overwhelming. God created each of us for a purpose. I now know mine is simply to love Jimi with all my heart. And to give him a reason to fight, to live and be happy.
Our stunning friends and beautiful family continue to be a source of strength, kindness and generosity. And all who know us, know it is not in our nature to ask for anything. We have always lived a modest life; never owned a new car; Nuts, we haven't taken a vacation in over 10 years.
Please know any help, big or small, is something that we deeply appreciate. You can be assured that it WILL be paid forward, once we are on our feet again. Our "Thank yous" and "Love yous" will never be enough to express the true feelings we have for all who have touched our lives. So many of you have already come to our aid, in many ways.
