Help Janak Dhakal Fight Cancer/Mucormycosis

We hope you all are having a good day so far. We are reaching out to all of you to help support our friend Janak Dhakal on his battle with Mucormycosis, a rare form of fungal infection and Lymphoma, a form of blood cancer.
Janak Dhakal, 35, is originally from Gorkha, Nepal and came to the United States five years ago in pursuit of higher education. His wife, Sanju who’s pursuing a nursing degree in the US, and his elderly parents who currently live in Chitwan, Nepal are dependent on Janak as the sole financial provider.
Janak was diagnosed with lymphoma three weeks ago by a hospital in Manhattan, Kansas. While the final biopsy result (for stage determination) of lung and lymph node is still pending, he is currently admitted at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) for the last two weeks. Unfortunately, the doctors in KUMC also diagnosed him with a rare type of systemic fungal infection called Mucormycosis. The incidence of this disease is very rare (yearly 1.7 cases in 1 million) and considered severely life-threatening. Janak is dealing with a very complicated situation where he has to undergo a cardiothoracic surgery to remove the infected lymph nodes and a part or whole of his left lung in addition to possible radiation and chemotherapy in a very near future.
Janak Dhakal is a recent Ph.D. graduate in Food Science from Mississippi State University. He is currently a postdoc fellow at Kansas State University. Janak is a charitable, loving and caring friend, son and a husband and a great human being with a big heart. We have seen him helping so many people in need in so many different instances. Whether it was during the earthquake in Nepal or flood in India or even tornado in Alabama and Georgia, he always stepped in and helped as much as he could.
Today, Janak is fighting the toughest battle of his life. He is literally hanging in between life and death at the moment. And, this is such a monumental fight that he needs our help in his long way to recovery. He has health insurance from Kansas State University, but his insurance has many limitations: for example, as he is a cancer patient, the KU cancer center is the best in this region for such cases. However, this hospital is not under network for his insurance. We are also working with insurance to request them to consider this hospital under coverage. Even in that case, as it is out of network they are most likely going to consider each case and each procedure separately. We don’t know the exact amount he will owe yet but we are told that our bill will be much higher even after the insurance is applied.
Like all other cancer patients, Janak wants to live. He is a very intelligent and highly educated man with lots of potentials. He is only thirty-five years old and he has his whole life ahead of him, and he has a lot to give to society and to the world. His parents need him. His wife needs him. And we all need him. We sincerely request all of you to please help him in these difficult times in any way and amount you can. Your help means a lot to him and his family.
