Help Jacob Beat Leukemia

Jacob’s Story
Jacob was 13 years old when originally diagnosed and is now 15 years old. He is one of five children in a blended family consisting of Mom- Heather, Dad- Joe, Bonus Mom- Tasha and siblings Shawn (17), Achiva (12), Joe Joe (9) and Bella (5). Jacob was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in January 2018, he went through multiple rounds of chemotherapy and then had a bone marrow transplant May 2018 at Boston Children’s Hospital with marrow donated by his big brother Shawn! The chemotherapy left him with congestive heart failure. He recovered from his transplant going through isolation and other hardships only to relapse in January 2019! Jacob again went though multiple rounds of chemotherapy, this time ending up in ICU intubated and sedated for weeks while his body fought sepsis, leukemia and sustained damage to his heart and his lungs. In the end of March 2019 he miraculously recovered from sepsis and was able to go home after a 6 week stay in the hospital! He had to go through tremendous amounts of physical and occupational therapy to recover some of his former physical function. In the end of March, 2019 his results were showing no evidence of disease. In June 2019, Jacob had donor lymphocyte infusions, a treatment donated by his big brother Shawn. But by the end of July 2019 we learned Jacob had relapsed for the second time...We considered different options consulting again with Boston but decided that a second bone marrow transplant was not a safe option for Jacob. He desperately wanted to get back to some sort of “normal life”.

Jacob is still in active treatment but he was finally able to start high school! We are doing as much of Jacob’s treatments outpatient as possible so he can continue to live as “normal” a life as possible.
Each month Jacob has five days of chemo where we commute back and forth 1.5 hours each way for the week. On the weeks he doesn’t have chemo he has 1-2 appointments per week also 1.5 hours each way. He has radiation therapy coming up as well and that will entail over three weeks of back and forth daily trips.
This August he started an experimental treatment which is not covered by either of his insurances.

We have been so blessed by our community since Jacob’s diagnosis for countless fundraisers, prayers and donations. The reality is that gas, tolls ,car repairs, lodging, and living expenses, and reduced incomes, have depleted what was so generously fundraised for Jacob and our family in the past.
As much as we hate to ask we ask that you would consider making a donation to be used towards Jacob’s treatments and extensive travel expenses.

Important Note All donations will be shared across Jacob’s two households for his benefit.
