Here's your chance to help spread quality writing and analysis on underground music to a global audience of prestigious academics!
I've had the honor of being selected to participate in this year's biennial research conference of the International Society For Metal Music Studies , happening this year in Nantes, France.
I'll be presenting a paper on Black Metal, Urbanism, and the Mystical Experience, discussing the role of cities in the development of the genre. I'll be getting into issues of isolation, alienation, and our separation from nature, and the perennial return of ancient traditions. I'll be examining Black Metal from all over the world using a handful of tools of my own creation.
If you've been following my journey, penning millions of words about underground, experimental, and non-commercial music, you'll understand what a big deal this is. Avant-garde art doesn't get enough attention, especially full-blown Academic analysis. This trip, and this presentation, will give me the opportunity to take my writing career to the next level, to deliver the most stellar work on a topic that is very near and dear to my heart. I'll also be repping for plenty of Cascadian Black Metal, so I'll be able to export some of the magick of the Pacific Northwest to a global audience.
I'm raising funds for:
2 airline tickets $2000
Lodging $1000
Travel Expenses $500
While I'm there, I will also be able to help broaden my writing career, gathering content for other kinds of cultural writing - travel, food, fashion, and history. I'll also be taking my partner-in-crime Lily H. Valentine to visit the Louvre, drinking in some of the greatest works of Art that have ever been creating. So you get to support two artistic careers for the price of one!
This is the chance of a lifetime! Any support will offer the chance to present the best work of my career, thus far, in front of some of the most respected Academics working in the field. It'll also help me to realize my lifelong dream of visiting Europe, the home of so much art that I adore.
