Help Hoshi defeat a brain tumor for her 10th bday

Hoshi is the absolute light of my life. She has been with me through some of the roughest parts of grad school and completely changed the way I experience the world, my life, and love. Words cannot express the extent to which she has changed my life, and completely saved me. I genuinely owe her everything.

A month ago to the day, she had to be hospitalized for what we now know is a brain tumor. One second she was normal, and the next she started having trouble breathing and acting very scared. I received a call in the middle of the night saying that she was "mentally dull" and experiencing brain swelling. My entire world shattered. We brought her home after her MRI and for the first few days she couldn't walk more than a few steps without face planting and beginning to hyperventilate. We stayed up with her every night to make sure she wouldn't slip away while we weren't looking. I've been afraid to take my eyes off her ever since.

They were able to operate on the tumor, but were only able to remove half of it, because unlike most tumors of this type this one was stuck to her brain and caused it to swell every time they tried to budge it. They were afraid she would not wake up from anesthesia--but when she did, she was feeling more like herself than she had in weeks. Most of the time, they need to keep patients hospitalized for 2-3 days to observe them; Hoshi, shining star that she is, came home the next day. She's been feeling great ever since.

Throughout all of this, she has been the absolute picture of grace and resilience. She has shown us strength and tenacity we didn't know even existed in this world. The only problem is, the tumor is still in there. She is so healthy otherwise, and it is so unfair that this tumor (which apparently usually only appears in dogs?) is trying to steal her time. She is daintily grooming herself while I write this, in tears for the hundredth time this month. She really is everything. I want to give her more time.

Because risking another surgery is dangerous, our vets (who have been wonderful throughout this whole saga) have recommended radiation as her next step. I am hopeful that this will help her continue to live a comfortable life for as long as possible. We have been thrown curveball after curveball ever since this whole thing started and she has endured it better than anyone could have ever imagined. If anyone can get through it, it's her.

But what she is going through is big.  And of course, our insurance is trash.

Hoshi's tenth birthday is in three days (August 18), and it would mean the world to us if you could contribute anything you can spare to help her get through this next stage of treatment.
