Hello!
Anyone that knows me reasonably well knows that I am extremely passionate about herpetological conservation; my interest in the field began as a hobby and has now evolved into my career pursuit, thanks to the invaluable opportunities and support I have been given from professors, friends, family, and co-workers.
As an undergraduate, I was fortunate to spend a semester at Highlands Biological Station, where I worked alongside a land manager from the North American Land Trust to conduct a study on salamander diversity across multiple slopes in the southern Appalachians. Following graduation from UNC, I joined the staff at Piedmont Wildlife Center, first as a Wildlife Conservation Intern and currently as an Office Administrator and instructor for our homeschool and afterschool environmental education programs. My time at PWC has deepened my understanding for the need of effective and specialized communication of environmental science to folks of varying backgrounds.
My next goal in developing my scientific communication skills is completing the Southern Appalachian Naturalist Certification program for Reptiles and Amphibians that takes place at the Great Smoky Mountains at Tremont from July 29-31st, 2020. The program will develop my species identification skills and also introduce me to techniques for educating a variety of audiences. The cost of the program is $367, with food and lodging included (I am prepared to cover the cost of transportation for myself).
