Hi everyone. Some of you may be familiar with my dog, Casey, some of you may not. Well unfortunately he suffered a serious fall and is now in pretty rough shape. To start off I’ll tell you the story of how I came to meet Casey Jones.
Last February I was driving home and as I crossed over the train tracks I looked down and noticed a white dog with a red sweater just standing on the tracks. I immediately parked, ran up to the crossing and started shouting and whistling hoping the dog would hear and at least move off the tracks. After a few minutes I ran over to go see what the problem was up close and found this battered, unkept, little dog in an old Christmas sweater with half a tail and a banged up head. I scooped him up off the tracks and got him to an emergency vet and eventually he landed in a local shelter to have the rest of his tail amputated and his wounds tended to. After about 6 weeks, the owners were found and said they no longer wanted him, so I was able to adopt him and take him home.
Casey is presumed to be about 12-13 years old, full of energy, an insatiable appetite, but poor vision. Recently, his poor vision got the best of him and he fell down a stairwell, landing him in the ICU and now costing a small fortune to get him back on his paws. The fall resulted in a neck injury, nearly paralyzing him. To ease the pain and eventually help him regain motor control, Casey will need to be medicated and eventually undergo spine surgery.
I’ve never had to do this before but I’m reaching out to you all with the hopes that we can raise the money necessary to help Casey. He’s a tough little guy who has survived a collision with a train and years of neglect from an unloving family. The first half of his life wasn’t easy, but I want to make sure the second half is as comfortable as possible. Please consider donating whatever you can so that we can help Casey overcome this situation.
