Help Fund Chez Nobody & Union Community Arts.

Hello, we are Chez Nobody & the Union Community Arts group. We are a non-profit, social enterprise company, set up to provide assistance, setting and atmosphere for all kinds of Artists & Musicians of all ages and backgrounds; and built as a welcoming, creative space in Lurgan, Craigavon, Northern Ireland. The organizations headquarters is based in a neutral zone in the town, allowing people of all ages, race and creed to meet comfortably in a cross community basis, with artistic style.


Chez Nobody & Union Community Arts is an organization split into different parts, all running from the one headquarters on Union St, Lurgan.  The Coffee Shop, Chez Nobody acts as the face of the organization and provides the main feel and look where anybody can meet, experience and feel fully involved in the underground arts movement the town has to offer; at the price of buying a cup of coffee. We pride ourselves on the retro decor, and wide range of handpicked music.

Our Main Hall, doubling up as a Function & Community Room, is the real hub of the community and has so much to offer in terms of facilitating different schemes large or small, artistically or otherwise, at an extremely affordable price. Certain community schemes are provided with the room free of charge. The Hall acts mainly as a Music & Arts space, and is open to the community educationally. Purchasing from the Coffee Shop grants access to the Hall and allows the community to use and learn about all kinds of Musical Instruments, Musical Equipment and usage of general Art supplies.


& recently we have began renovating our storage room into Lurgan's first and only Full Band Rehearsal Suite, and eventually, Recording Studio with a small area acting as a dedicated Music Shop, providing the town and surrounding areas with Strings, Picks, Straps, Drumsticks , Set ups and repairs etc - something much needed in this very artistic town. We have little left to do with the room and are hoping to have this open within the next few weeks.

Some of our past, present and future events, programmes, schemes and projects:

* Function Room for Public Hire & Accommodation for Meetings & Social Groups (Public Meetings, Faith or Religious groups, Disability Social Groups.)
* A Music Recording & Rehearsal suite: a much needed facility in this talented town. To be open soon.
* A photography & film suite for editing and picture capturing: allowing a public place for local photographers and models to work together. 
* Art Gallery: to support work from local artists
* Music & Art lesson facilitation.
*A welcoming and engaging retro styled coffee shop, with handpicked music & vinyl

Above is a general description of what we do and how we provide to the general community.  So here's why we're welcoming outside funding and have decided to start up this GoFundMe page:

For the past two years, we have worked as a not-for-profit company, with the directors taking little-to-no wages throughout the time. Instead, any and all profits have been pumped back into the company, mainly paying for the use of the building itself (rent) but also to allow increase in our reach to the community and expanding what the company, and its different sections, have to offer.

Chez Nobody & Union Community Arts is the only organization of its kind in the country. What inspires us the most about Chez is not only the space and resources it provides but the community of conscious artists of all ages and backgrounds that has formed around it. It's difficult for artists to find a place anywhere in the world. In Northern Ireland, that challenge is even more strongly defined by hindrances in finance and culture. But the Union Community Arts group & Chez Nobody is alive and well and we'd like to take our mission even further.

Long story short, recently, we have had trouble securing funding from large local funding bodies. The difficulty in this has lead us to a point where we've had to consider and welcome this type of outside funding to evolve and expand. Your funding will allow us to continue to provide a safe, creative space for people of all ages and backgrounds to discover, work, produce and engage with like minded people.

So what will the money be used for?

Any and all donated money will be used to ensure our continued usage of the building, and improve, finalize our Rehearsal Suite. You will told exactly how your money will be used.
