Help for the Reeder Family

Donation protected
This campaign has been started by the Ventura County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association because one of our members needs help to adapt their home for a wheelchair so that his wife can come home.

Senior Deputy Scott Reeder’s wife Courtnay was first diagnosed with breast cancer in March of 2011.  She underwent radiation, chemotherapy and surgery but they were unable to stop the cancer from spreading to her brain.  When it did, their daughters (now 14 and 17) were so young that the sole focus was creating memories for the girls with their mother.   Scott, Courtnay, and their two daughters have been working hard to fight this battle together for 8 long years, which has exhausted all financial resources.  Until March of this year, Courtnay continued to work as a per diem ER nurse at St. John’s in Oxnard but as of now has been unable to return, and a per diem position does not provide any benefits.

On April 22, 2019, Courtnay underwent her third brain surgery (yes, she went back to work after the first two).  This surgery resulted in some neurological damage that has left Courtnay unable to walk unassisted and working hard in physical therapy in a rehab center in the hopes that she may some day move around freely without the assistance of her wheelchair.

Because of this, the Reeder home needs to be modified to accommodate the wheelchair and physical restrictions.  This must be done in order to bring Courtnay home so she can recover in her own home in the presence of her daughters.  Their younger daughter is graduating from middle school in two weeks and Courtnay is working hard to be there and to be home for this.

Because the family finances have been depleted from 8 years of medical bills and leaves of absence from work for both, we are reaching out for your help in getting the work done on the house.  The minimum work to bring her home is estimated to be approximately $25,000, and that does not include any work that will need to be done in the kitchen.  The sooner we can get Courtnay home, the sooner Scott can go back to work, and the family can start helping her rally in her own home.

Any amount, no matter how small, will help her.  Please share this with your friends and neighbors to help us bring Courtnay home so that she can work on making memories with her daughters.  Thank you for assisting the Reeder Family.
