Help for the Kenneally Family

On June 22, my mom and uncle were victims of a tragic stabbing incident that involved my brother. Unfortunately, my brother refused to listen to police demands that night and was killed by an officer on the scene in order to save my mom's life. To this day, it is still so hard to discuss, but I have included a link to an article about the incident below.

Today, my uncle has recovered well, but my mom still has a long road of recovery to go. She has suffered nerve damage that has affected the mobility in her arm and caused neuropathy that has made walking on her own difficult. We are hopeful in time with rigorous physical and occupational therapy, she will get her full mobility back.

My mom would like to spend some of her recovery time with us in Colorado. After going through such a traumatic event, we feel spending time with my nearly 5 month old daughter (my mom's 1st grandchild) will be some of the best emotional therapy for my mom. Unfortunately, her insurance will not cover her out of state physical/occupational therapy costs and this kind of therapy is instrumental in her recovery. With the need to have both physical and occupational therapy several times per week, the costs could add up fast and reduce the time she would plan to stay with us. With the donations received, we will use it towards her costs for physical/occupational therapy in Colorado as well as towards any outstanding medical bills for my mom and uncle, and costs from the aftermath cleanup at my grandpa's house, where the incident occurred.

I not only am sharing our story to ask for donations, but to try to spread more awareness on mental illness and the impact to call 9-1-1 for someone you feel may be in trouble. Mental illness is such a huge problem in this country that often gets overlooked until it is too late. My brother never showed signs of mental instability until just a few days before the incident. My mom did everything she could to help my brother and even called a hotline that very day before going to check on him. The only advice the hotline gave her was to either take him to the emergency room or call 9-1-1. Two things not possible in this kind of situation. If it wasn’t for the quick actions by the downstairs neighbor to call 9-1-1, my mom and uncle would most likely not be here with us today. We will be forever grateful to him and hope that if you are ever in a similar situation, you will remember this story and do the same, not just ignore the situation.

Anyone who knows my mom and uncle knows that they are one of the kindest, most self-less people you will ever meet. They would never ask for anyone's help, but would jump to help others in need. Their spirit among this all has been remarkable and we are just so thankful and blessed that they are still here with us.

On behalf of my family, we would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this difficult time.
