On the 14th September Gareth had a fall in school and bumped his forehead he had a lump there over the following 2 weeks our gp was monitoring him but on Friday the 29th September Gareth came home from school and the lump was twice the size so I took him up to a+e in Morrison hospital where they did a brain scan and found a mass he was admitted and he had a scan the following day an they spoke to doctors in Cardiff who wanted Gareth transferred up there the following morning gareth transferred and admitted to owl ward over the following week Gareth has numerous blood tests and a biopsy taken from the mass in his head we were sent home for a week until the results came back when we met with Gareth consultant who told us Gareth had anaplastic large cell lymphoma over the following week Gareth had numerous scans to check if he had any secondary tumours unfortunately he had a tumour on his left lung and on his chest also tumours on the lymphnodes in his neck we were told Gareth would be admitted to rainbow ward for 4 months the following week while they get his chemotherapy treatment right due to all the side effects over the following 2 weeks Gareth had 7 lumber puncture with chemotherapy to try and shrink the mass in his head and he also had a strong dose of chemotherapy through his Hickman line to shrink the secondary tumours in his body over the next 10 days Gareth became seriously ill as his body was so sensitive to the chemotherapy and in constant pain he was on morphine for the pain and eventually admitted to paediatric care unit as his stomach was so swollen due to the infection in his bowels within an hour he was rushed to theatre as his stomach was so swollen his stomach muscles were pushing his stomach up into his lungs and he he couldn't breath and his legs werw changing colour due to the circulation being restricted while Gareth was in theatre they had to remove his Hickman line as they found bugs on it and they had to put a stoma bag in his lower bowel to release the infection they put a drain through his nose to release the infection in his stomach and had to leave his stomach wound open due to his stomach being so swollen he was on a respirator for 2 weeks and kept sedated they have kept his stoma bag in until he finishes his chemotherapy he was admitted to owl ward where he remained until the swelling had gone down enough to close his stomach wound after a week he was admitted back to rainbow ward to start a new treatment plan they have lowered a few of his medication so far he has had 3 lumber punctures with chemotherapy and he has just finished a 5 day course through his Hickman line so far so good we are keeping positive for our brave soldier After 7 months of intense chemotherapy treatment Gareth rang the end of treatment Bell on the Friday 20th of April unfortunately Gareth was admitted back to Morriston hospital on Sunday 22nd of April as he was in severe pain with his stoma they transferred Gareth straight back to Cardiff heath hospital within 4hrs on Tuesday 24rth April he got rushed to theatre for 5 and a half hrs to have emergency surgery they had to give him a new stoma as his old one was all twisted and knotted and sent of for tests and his bowel was all stuck together they spent a couple of hrs separating it, they took biopsies and unfortunately we had the results back and had the devastating news that he had cancer in his stomach after 2 weeks in intensive care they carried out numerous scans and found that he now has cancer in his stomach spleen lymphnodes chest kidneys and behind his eyes he is facing two months of a more intense mix of 3 chemotherapy treatment and lumber punctures with chemotherapy then he will have more scans if the scans show the tumours are shrinking then Bristol will carry out a bone marrow transplant and radiotherapy treatment we hope this will give Gareth the fighting chance that he deserves we are hoping to raise money to take Gareth to lego land and Disney land Paris please help us to make Gareths wishes come true many thanks
