Dear friends,
I have started this Gofundme to support our dear friends Shirley and Larry Oya. Larry has been suffering from the effects of spinal stenosis as a result of extensive calcification along his spine (first diagnosed in 1998). There is currently no cure for this degenerative and painful disease, which causes numerous neurological symptoms, and has prevented Larry from working since 2016.
APRIL 2019:
Two very long and delicate surgeries to remove a large calcified tumor from his spinal cord resulted in numerous complications, including quadriplegia. Larry will begin extensive outpatient physical therapy in August. The doctors believe he will need many months of therapy to help him (hopefully) walk again.
The family is facing numerous and long term expenses, the largest being the high cost of caregivers as Larry needs assistance with most daily activities. The cost of this care alone is RAPIDLY depleting all of their savings and they are in URGENT need of financial assistance.
**Although Larry has Medicare, it does not provide any coverage for in-home caregivers. There are also numerous out of pocket medical costs including costly wheelchair accommodated transportation to and from appointments.
We all want to help with Larry’s recovery process, so I am asking you to donate ANY dollar amount to offset the enormous cost of helping Larry walk well again.

Where your money will go:
- caregivers - $2300 per week
- medical equipment not covered or partially covered by insurance (eg: wound vac is $100/day out of pocket)
- numerous medications (some are uncovered or only partially covered, and when generic is not an option)
-power wheelchair - estimated between 30k to 40k (he has one on temporary loan for now but was told he will need to own one going forward)
- functional medicine (eg: acupuncture, therapeutic massage to help with pain, plus stimulate and heal his nerves)
- sleep number bed to ease pain and for bed exercises
- co-pays for extensive/long term physical and occupational therapy (outpatient)
