Aubrey Karavas has been diagnosed with Peritoneal Mesothelioma. It spread to her gall bladder, appendix, spleen, uterus, and ovaries; which have all been surgically removed. She is about to begin her first treatment. The treatment she is receiving is Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC), which is is a cancer treatment that involves filling the abdominal cavity with chemotherapy drugs that have been heated. This is a very expensive and specialized treatment. Aubrey will receive treatments every three weeks for approximately one year, and during the time it is being administered she will be hospitalized.
