In 2018 while working in Japan, Jonathon was getting severe vision problems and dizziness. After receiving an MRI, the Doctor told informed him that the symptoms and images displayed signs of Lymphoma.
Jonathon thought it was best to receive treatment back in Canada, surrounded by his family and friends, so the day after hopped on the first flight back to Vancouver.
He was accepted into Vancouver General Hospital and on the third day after some testing, he was in stable enough condition to re-instate his MSP (medical service plan), not knowing about the three month waiting period.
He tried to leave the hospital because he knew he wouldn't be able to afford the bills, but the Doctors spoke against it, saying he would get treated faster as an in-patient.
After two weeks of tests, it was decided that it was a rare brain infection and was treated with IV steroids for five days.
Jonathon was able to leave the hospital but because he was not covered by MSP the total bill was just over $21,000.
He is currently the sole income for his Wife and son Leo who just turned one, and all the funds would go to paying off the Hospital bill to alleviate the stress of having this huge burden after a huge medical ordeal.
