As many of you know from following Eric and Ronnie's amazing adventures on Facebook, Ronnie was injured very badly last night while playing with his cousin dog, Zena in our back yard. Zena ran and leaped onto our cement patio like a German Shepard Gazelle mix and Ronnie, with his short little legs, chased her but didn't quite clear the edge when he was sliced open by a rusted metal bracket... one of several that was on our landlord's (aka my mom's) to do list to demo with a torch and jackhammer before anyone got hurt... needless to say, too late. :(
We all know Eric enjoys some financial freedom for himself and Ronnie to go on some really fun journeys. Last night when the receptionist handed Eric the quote he needed to put down before the vet team would/could even give Ronnie that first pain pill he desperately needed, I saw worry spread across his face. He pulled out his wallet, handed the lady two credit cards to cover the payment and sighed, "Whatever it takes," without a word to his little brother, Beau and I about what that quote said.
Well... Eric went out to rest with Ronnie and so I thought I'd grab Ronnie's pain & antibiotic prescriptions to get it filled while they rest. In the pile of care instructions and prescriptions was the receipt for the surgery... I peeked... $1,800!!!! Plus the vet said the drain needs to come out in 3-5 days ( a couple more hundred) and then the sutures in 10 days (a couple more hundred) and his prescriptions will be about $300 ... this could easily hit $3500.
Eric is a simple free guy but, SERIOUSLY who is really financially ready to take that big of a hit for their fur baby in a blink of an eye? If you know Eric at all, you will totally get this... On the way to the animal hospital, I mentioned we should created a GoFundMe but he replied, "No, I can't do that. I'm a helper but not one to ask for help." So true. It's a Nelson thing.
I'm an optimist who believes in miracles. I know that $3,500 is a lot to ask but I also know SO many people love Eric and Ronnie that if everyone gave even a few bucks, we could really help our boys out. Please help us help Eric help Ronnie before Eric wakes up and makes me take this down! Haha!
