Most people are all to familiar with the phrase "losing the battle with cancer.” As we age, the proximity to those words seems to grow closer and closer. For our dear friend Emily, those words lie heavy on her doorstep.
Emily’s Mom, Deb, was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago, which has now metastasized to her brain, kidneys and liver. Deb is currently in an unsettling and potentially indefinite hospital stay for pneumonia and an infection. Sadly the strain from these hospital stays are no new occurrence, with Deb having already undergone the arduous yet failed attempts of treating her cancer with chemo, radiation beads in her brain, and brain surgery to remove tumors.
With the hospital being in Kansas City and Emily and her 14 year old sister, Melissa, living in Columbia, Emily has used up every ounce of her free-time working, taking care of her animals, and driving four hours to-and-from KC every weekend. Often she'll have to take her sister back to Columbia only to immediately drive back to be at Deb's bedside.
This fundraiser is created with a heavy heart, but with the hopes that it well help Emily and those close to her by alleviating at least a fraction of the burden in this immensely taxing situation.
Emily works as a massage therapist and this healing trade is a reflection of the depth of the loving, strong, and supportive, relationships she's always shared with her family and friends. Even before her Mom had cancer, she and Emily would speak to each-other daily over the phone sharing loving words interspersed with laughter.
Any amount you can donate to help Emily with bills, gas, and living expenses fosters future compassionate moments that Emily and Melissa will be able to spend with their Mom in a time when she needs all the love she can get.
