Help Diego finish his chemotherapy in Venezuela

Hi everyone. My name is Rosa Castro and I am one of the many Venezuelans living abroad. Today I would like to ask your help for my dear friend and "sister of life" Celiberth Curiel (Chely). I met Chely more than 20 years ago at the University (UCAB) in Caracas
In June 2017, Chely’s son (then 6 years old), was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Since then, Chely, her husband, and her entire family have been helping Dieguito fight against this disease, taking him from Coro to Valencia for his treatment, doing the tests and finding the medicines. Above all, they have kept the courage and optimism to help him during the most difficult part of his chemotherapy.
In the midst of the Venezuelan crisis, Diego’s parents have made enormous sacrifices so that he can complete his treatment. Right now they need our help to continue.
Diego's chemotherapy
Thankfully, Diego is responding well to the therapy but he needs to finish all this cycle. During the maintenance phase, he needs a weekly intramuscular injection and every 21 days he also needs the therapy through a lumbar puncture. He needs this treatment until July 2019. After this, he will need other exams and treatments for at least 10 years.
As you might have heard, the situation in Venezuela is getting worse every day. Daily life is tough if you are healthy. For those fighting against a disease, it is worse than you could imagine.
With an estimated inflation rate of over 1,000,000, it is almost impossible to predict how much things will cost in Venezuela from day to day. With Chely, we have estimated that she will need approximately 1500 euros to cover the treatment until July 2019. This is the reason why I am opening this campaign.

About Chely and me
Chely and I met in Caracas. Both of us came from different cities, Chely from Coro and I from Maracay. Thanks to Chely I went to live in a special dorm where more than 100 girls from outside of Caracas lived together while attending the university. That building is still full of our stories, gossips, our tears and laughter and even with some bottle of alcohol we might have smuggled inside.
I met my two best friends there. Life constantly tests us, but it also makes us find solidarity and courage even when we are not expecting them. From Brussels, I will send Diego’s parents all the help they will receive to help Diego finish his chemotherapy.

Hola a todos. Mi nombre es Rosa Castro, soy venezolana, una más de los muchos que viven en el exterior. Hoy quisiera pedirles que me ayuden a darle una mano a mi querida amiga y “hermana de vida” Celiberth Curiel (Chely), a quien conocí en la universidad (UCAB) hace ya más de 20 años.
En Junio del 2017 a Chely le dijeron que su hijo Diego (entonces de 6 años) tenía Leucemia Linfoblástica Aguda. Desde entonces, Chely, su esposo, y toda su familia, han estado luchando junto a Dieguito, llevándolo de Coro a Valencia para que siga su tratamiento, haciendo exámenes, buscando medicinas y manteniendo el coraje y optimismo durante las horas más duras de la quimioterapia. En medio de la crisis que vive Venezuela, los papás de Diego han hecho enormes sacrificios para que pueda completar su tratamiento. Y en este momento necesitan de nuestra ayuda para continuar.
La quimioterapia de Diego
Gracias a Dios, Diego está respondiendo bien al tratamiento pero es necesario que termine todo el ciclo. En esta fase de mantenimiento, Diego necesita una quimioterapia intramuscular semanal y otra quimioterapia endovenosa cada 21 días con aspirado de médula y punción lumbar cada cierto tiempo (según lo indica su médico). Este tratamiento dura hasta julio de 2019, y a partir de allí deberá mantener controles y mantenimiento que duran un total de 10 años.
Como tal vez habrán oído la situación se hace cada día mas dura en Venezuela. El día a día es difícil para todos, incluso para quien está sano. Para quien debe luchar contra una enfermedad es un calvario.
Con una inflación de mas del 1.000.000% es casi imposible predecir cuanto cuestan las cosas en Venezuela. Con Chely hemos calculado que para poder cubrir los 11 tratamientos de aquí a Julio 2019, se necesitan aproximadamente 1500 Euros.
Les agradezco de corazón cualquier ayuda que puedan realizar ya sea económica o a través de sus oraciones.
Ayudemos a Diego desde la alegría y el optimismo que cada día será mejor y pronto estará completamente sano, también gracias a ustedes!

Yo venía de Maracay y Chely de Coro. Gracias a Chely viví los momentos más alegres de mi vida universitaria. Chely me hablo de la “resi”, una residencia que tenían las monjitas en la plaza de El Paraíso en Caracas. Allí, junto a otras 100 muchachas que venían de todos los rincones de Venezuela se quedaron miles de recuerdos. Risas, llantos, chistes, chismes, comidas y hasta alguna que otra botella de vino escondida. En la resi conocí a dos de mis mejores amigas.
La vida nos pone duras pruebas pero también nos hace encontrar la solidaridad y el coraje cuando menos lo esperamos. Desde Bruselas me comprometo a enviar a los padres de Diego toda la ayuda que reciba para sus gastos médicos.
