This is my Mommy’s story in her own words:
“Today is my birthday. I’ve just turned 56 years old.
At the age of 49, in 2012, I was diagnosed with stage one breast cancer in my left breast. I had a lumpectomy and radiation treatment and was put on tamoxifen medication for the next 5 years. Within that five years, four years later in 2016, the breast cancer came back in my right breast. Stage two. This time it traveled to the lymph nodes. I had another lumpectomy, chemo therapy, and radiation therapy.
On January 10, 2019, I was walking across the street, coming from the store, going back to my car. A vehicle came out of no where making an illegal left turn, striking me down and breaking my right tibia. I was transported to Beth Israel Hospital in Newark NJ by ambulance. 15 days later I had surgery on my leg, leaving a rod and 6 six screws in my leg for the rest of my life. This accident has caused me to be out of work for seven months. A job that I’ve proudly held for the last 21 years.
While in the emergency room for the car accident the doctors took a full body scan to check for internal bleeding and other broken bones. The body scan results came back with several spots on my bones. I was told to take the report to my oncologist.
I’ve had two painful biopsies since that scan. They came back positive for MBC Stage IV Breast Cancer. There are now lesions in my right hip, pelvis, T3, T11, L1, L4, L5 In my spine, lateral eight and seventh rib, left clavicle, sternum, both femurs, my skull, and multiple other locations.
I start my treatment today on my birthday. I have to take Ibrance medication for the rest of my life.
My wonderful husband has been paying all of our bills. It’s been difficult but we’ve done the best we can given the situation. I was told yesterday that I’ve exhausted all of my funds at work. I applied for disability but they stated it could take up to four to five months for a decision.“
I’m sharing my mom’s story today and asking for donations to help her get through these next few months with minimal stress while she awaits her disability decision and goes through this next phase of her life. The amount may seem like a lot to some but as we all know bills add up. Rent, car insurance, basic necessities like food, trips to the oncologist, medical bills for the car accident as well as the cancer treatment alone amounts to more than this. Any amount you’re able to give will help and is greatly appreciated and if you’re not able to donate, please say a prayer for my Mommy and share this so that this will reach someone who is able to do so.
