An alternative to conventional education, Sudbury schools have a 50-year history of success around the world—but this is a first for the St. Louis area!
The Sudbury model of education is based on the principle that we are born curious and learn best when we initiate our own learning. Sudbury students explore the world on their own terms: no curriculum, no grades, no teachers, no tests. Students are respected and trusted.
So far, we have a gorgeous property in Wildwood, on six acres of land, where we are hoping to create a community of life-learners! We have already signed a lease for the property, but we are raising funds to pay the deposit to activate the lease to purchase option. In other words, the sooner we can raise $4000, the sooner each month's rent will go towards the eventual purchase of this beautiful property! Our goal is to deeply invest in the Wildwood property with a long term vision, hoping for a future where many students can explore the outdoor joys of the meadows, forest, and play areas this location provides, while having the farmhouse building available for reading, arts and crafts, music, gaming and tech stations, quiet spaces, cooking, playing, and learning together, in a disability-accessible, comfortable environment.
We want to protect the autonomy of young people. Just as babies learn to walk and talk without being prompted, we believe that children are born with the drive and skills to create a meaningful, successful life—without adult intervention. Our school will offer fully Self-Directed Education in a democratic context for students age four through eighteen.
