Help Cleveland Father Beat Colon Cancer

Donation protected
On January 11th of this year, after two weeks of intense stomach pain, Paul Bussert, was taken into emergency surgery to remove a large mass in his intestine and a significant part of his colon. He was given an ostomy and anxiously awaited the results of a biopsy of the mass. The hope of the medical team and his family and friends was that the mass was not malignant and the surgery would be sufficient treatment. Unfortunately, this was not the case and within a couple of weeks of his surgery, his physician confirmed a diagnosis of colorectal cancer. Two months later, upon the recommendation of his medical care team, Paul followed up with a dermatologist about an unusual spot on his face. After performing a biopsy, it was confirmed that the new spot under his eye was cancerous. We are currently awaiting a plan for further treatment.

This news has been heartbreaking for Paul’s family and difficult for Paul, who is no stranger to personal challenges. Paul has been a business owner in Cleveland since 1994, specializing in residential granite and marble fabrication and installation. In 2009, shortly after the 2008 financial crisis, he lost his business and was forced to rebuild. Over the last decade, Paul has persevered and created a new business in the same industry. His fortitude and work ethic are apparent to anyone who knows him and he has been an incredible role model of resilience for his sons, his entire family, and his friends near and far.

Paul's oncologist recommended six months of chemotherapy, and he began treatment roughly one month ago. Since his surgery, he has been unable to work. Paul is currently the sole provider for his 15-year-old son and has dedicated himself to being involved in his life through volunteering with his Boy Scouts troop and his school musical groups, and attending his swim meets. He has worked tirelessly his entire life to provide for his family and to contribute to his community. His family is dedicated to ensuring that he can continue doing so, but do not have the financial means to do so on their own.

As medical expenses, living expenses, and the cost to keep the doors open at his company have increased, it has become nearly impossible for Paul to manage on his own. He is in great need of support to see him and his family through this challenging time.

If you feel moved to and are able to donate anything to help Paul beat colon cancer, your generosity would be so appreciated.

In addition, Paul has become committed to spreading knowledge about the importance of early screenings. To learn more about current research and prevention efforts, visit Colorectal Cancer Alliance at https://www.ccalliance.org/.
