Help A New Mother Fight Cancer

Ciarra is a 29 year-old new mama to her sweet 10 month-old son, Summit. She and her husband, Marlin,  own and operate their own blind business, "Durango Shade Company" in Durango, Colorado. Born and raised in Carbondale, Colorado, Ciarra met Marlin while attending Fort Lewis College. 

On Thursday, September 19th Ciarra underwent blood tests after feeling excruciating pain throughout her body. The doctors quickly knew something was very wrong due to her blood counts and she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. This is a very rare form of leukemia (cancer of the blood), usually found in older adults and can spread quickly.


Immediately flown to St. Luke's hospital in Denver for treatment, Ciarra began chemotherapy on September 24th and will be kept in isolation away from her baby boy while undergoing chemotherapy for at least the next month.

Ciarra will then battle through a second round of chemotherapy prior to receiving a bone marrow transplant.   At this point she will need to remain in the Denver area for 100 days in order to ensure her body accepts the new bone marrow. During much of the year-long fight for her life, Ciarra and her family will be separated from each other due to her fragile immune system.

Our hope is to relieve some of the extraordinary financial stress that will arise in fighting her leukemia.   While Ciarra is undergoing treatment  her husband will be raising their son and will be unable to run their business. The family will have costs for raising a growing baby, insurance co-pays and living expenses.  Any amount of money we raise will help make this time easier for this young family.
