As some of you may know my dad "The Badger" had a bad mtn bike accident. He was found completely unconscious, and if it wasn't for the perfect storm of assistance he would not be alive today.
For those who know my dad he is an incredibly selfless man who spends hours of his free time building local mountain bike trails, setting up bikes, or building guitars for those who may not be able to afford it otherwise.
After the accident he was flown to llumc, and entered Neurosurgery to repair spinal damage. The surgery was successful and left him in stable condition, but we still don't know if his mobility will make a full recovery. He is currently feeling tingling in his hands, but has no feeling in his lower extremities, and still struggles to cough or swallow.
The doctors give him a 50/50 shot to make a full recovery. And they recommend a rehab center in Colorado for his best chance for a full recovery.
Although insurance has been helpful up to this point, this rehab center is extremely pricy. Because of my father I got into mountain biking, and the trail building responsibilities that come with it. This is his best chance to regain his mobility, play guitar, and continue to mountain bike.
Any assistance you can give in this scary situation would mean the world to me and our family.
I would love to take the time to also thank the bikers who found him and called 911. Thank you to the first responders who carried my dad throughout the 1/2 mile hike to the helicopter. Thank you to the fire captain who sustained a dog bite from Jack who was guarding my dad.
For those who know us well please know God is our beginning and end. Pray for my dad's recovery and healing. Prayer is not a passive platitude. It is the enabling of the greatest force in the universe, the relentless love of God that will never leave us or let us go.
