UPDATE:  We hit the goal but please don't stop.  There is no top number.  Every dollar will help and be used directly for medical and other impactful important expenses.

Today (August 6th, 2019) is Chris Phillips' birthday.

Nobody should have a massive heart attack in the week they turn 45 years old.

But this is what happened to Chris on Saturday night.  He found himself in a helicopter being "flight for life'd", fighting to survive against a ticking clock and a seriously clogged "widow maker" artery leading into his heart.  He had two stents put into his left main artery and came home on Tuesday to recover.

The good news is that his beautiful wife Natalie isn't a widow.

Chris's number wasn't up.  He is back with us to bring us the joy and hugs we have come to rely on from his bright presence - at the restaurant he and Natalie own (The Sunflower in CB) and just in life.

His four siblings didn't lose their brother.  His parents didn't lose their son.  You didn't lose a dear friend.

He is pretty much his usual self today. (I saw him and he was thinking about his wine order.)  But his road to recovery and the revisions to life that are inevitable after a huge medical event like this will be significant and lengthy. He can't put in the long hours at work that are the hallmark of summer in the restaurant business in Crested Butte.

Although Chris and Natalie would never say it, they could use our help.

Health care costs, missed work, extra staffing to cover shifts, living expenses, high quality foods to nourish his recovery, medications, PT...  these are just a few of the challenges Chris will have to deal with.  They are entrepreneurs in a seasonal mountain town - just use your imagination.

They could use our help.

Think of all the gifts they have given you over the years, all the smiles, and think about what gift you can give back to them - anything from a small token to a big one.  We can all rally and do something.  If you can't donate, a delivery of super healthy, low sodium vegan food (plus fish) is a great alternative.  For once, we get a chance to feed them.

Please share this widely with everyone who knows and loves Chris and Natalie.  And you can give anonymously if that feels easier.

Thank you.

Much love,

Karen and friends
