Help Ceejay Get Back on Her Feet

Donation protected

Meet Ceejay…the sweetest Rottweiler there ever was. Ceejay was surrendered to our hospital at 2 months of age after the breeder’s cruel and inhumane attempt to correct a congenital joint laxity by binding her back legs together. The binding was so tight it compromised the circulation in her limbs and in attempt to free herself from the bindings Ceejay began to chew off her foot. As a result of the lack of circulation and self-trauma, she lost her foot. Christine, one the kindest souls on our patient care team decided on the spot to adopt this sweet girl and has stayed by her side through her tumultuous journey. Ceejay required endless days of wound management which was unfortunately followed by a failed attempt at a skin graft to cover her wound. Earlier this year she developed a resistant staph infection in the limb and a chronic wound that proved impossible to clear despite the best attempts. More recently, she was hospitalized because the infection became so severe, she became systemically ill. Sadly, the infection caused more of the tissue to die and slough off. There was no option but to amputate more of her limb. Christine asked the surgeon to leave as much limb as possible so that Ceejay could one day be fitted for a prothesis. Christine understands that Ceejay needs to be able to use this leg because her congenital joint laxity affects all her other remaining legs. In addition, her other rear leg has already suffered a cruciate rupture. Ceejay literally does not have a good leg to stand on. Unfortunately, the amputation site has become infected with what appears to be the same resistant infection. The prognosis is guarded. Christine is desperate to continue to help this sweet girl, but it does not have the finances to continue on her own. She needs all the help she can get in order to continue to try to heal Ceejay in the hopes that someday, just maybe,  she will be able to walk again with a prothesis. Please consider donating to help offset Ceejay's medical bills and allow for her continued medical care. You may donate through GoFundMe or directly by calling VCA Encina Veterinary Medical Center (925-937-5000) and making a donation towards Ceejay Hernandez.
